I'm loving this name lately!! Anybody else? And more so than Dorothy?

The nn Thea is cool for a young woman, but Dolly and Dotty are really cute for a little girl..

Which do you prefer between my original choice Phoebe Willow and this new one?

Beautiful. Ditch the previous one Grin

hatebeak · 07/10/2010 16:38

Dorothea, definitely.

Lora69 · 07/10/2010 16:41

Wondering whether it sounds a bit too upper class for my liking tho.. is it stuck up and pretentious???!

I don't think so. It's quite a weighty name but those nicknames you've mentioned lighten it up. It's classy, rather than stuck-up.

Me, I'd struggle between Dorothea or Theodora - Thea and Dora are such lovely nns.

mathanxiety · 07/10/2010 18:35

I prefer Theodora. I like Phoebe Willow too.

suspiria · 07/10/2010 21:37

Well, I know a Dorothea. Her parents are teachers. They are more middle class bohemian than upper class and pretentious.
I also know a Theodora, which I much prefer.

Bon Jovis missus is called Dorothea. Like the NN.

Rhubarbgarden · 09/10/2010 19:15

Lovely.

I want Dorothea because I love Thea, but DH won't have it. I also like Dolly, but not Dot/Dotty. DH says if I like Thea then just call the baby Thea, but I have a weird irrational prejudice against calling babies short versions of names. I would much rather call them the long version and shorten it. I know this doesn't make sense to anyone but me!

Phoebe has gone so mainstream since Friends, which is a shame because it is so pretty. Willow is adorable! Dorothea Willow?

Faaamily · 09/10/2010 19:32

I prefer Dorothy to Dorothea. It's a nice name, though.

I like Phoebe, too. Willow not so much. A bit of a 'fashion' name to my ears.

Thea isn't a nickname, btw, it's a name in it's own right. the problem you may have is that it that lots of people pronounce it Taya, ime (a valid version of the name, too).

catinthehat2 · 09/10/2010 19:46

LIke it.

mousymouse · 09/10/2010 19:47

Love it, you could also call her dora

inveteratenamechanger · 09/10/2010 19:50
