Edward or George

Due in 5 weeks. Pretty set on Edward which is the name of my father and grandfather. Other option is George which is the name of my other grandfather.

Views? Not sure what nn you could have for George whereas with Edward I love Ted or Teddy for a little baby.

Not sure of middle name - maybe Thomas or maybe no middle name.

DH likes both but I get final say given it will get his last name (I kept my maiden name).

Edward is nice, much better than George IMO. It is becoming more common I think.
It has many nice nicknames, and Ted and Teddy are lovely for a baby. I know a grown up Ted (prefer it to Ed).
Could you give him George as a middle name?

Flossiebelle · 05/10/2010 15:46

I absolutely love the name Edward. This would definately be my choice over the two. Even though George is still a lovely name Smile

Greensleeves · 05/10/2010 15:46

ooooh, Georgie. I'd love a Georgie. Of either sex.

Hedwig3 · 05/10/2010 15:52

George!

Miasma · 05/10/2010 15:54

George

LouMacca · 05/10/2010 15:55

Love both those names. Edward would probably be my choice for a first name out of the two because I love Teddy/Ted as a nn. My DS has George for a middle name.

Jojay · 05/10/2010 15:55

Edward. But Ed or Eddie is much better than Ted / Teddy.

LouMacca · 05/10/2010 15:56

btw my lovely Dads name is George Edward Smile

emmyloo2 · 05/10/2010 16:10

oooh, looks like a mixed response. The issue came up because I suggested Edward George to DH and he said yes, but we could also have George Edward which got me thinking....

Perhaps I might stick with Edward and have George as the middle name.

Definitely Edward. Ted/Teddy are great nn's. I also love Ned.

MrsJohnDeere · 05/10/2010 18:03

I love both, but think Edward just has the edge over George.

Jojay · 05/10/2010 19:25

Does any self respecting adult alpha male really want to be known as Teddy though??

Go with Edward, but stick to Ed or Eddie as a nickname, please Grin

piscesmoon · 05/10/2010 19:29

I loved Edward, but didn't use it because I knew it would be shortened. Ted or Teddy is the worst of the lot-dire! Perhaps George is safer.

SirBoobAlot · 05/10/2010 19:48

Like them both, but love Edward.

MuffinMouse · 05/10/2010 20:59

Definitely go with Edward. Don't like George at all. How about a more unusual mn as it's a traditional first name? Some friends did this and it gave their DCs a range to match their future personality. (They chose a popular first, hippy second, traditional third). Just an idea -

eatyourveg · 05/10/2010 21:07

George can really only be Georgie, Edward can be Ed Ted Eddie Teddy

Why don't you go for Edward George?

I like George and I think Thomas makes a good middle name. George Thomas sounds good. At least thats what we thought when ds1 was born

flopsy1974 · 06/10/2010 15:02

Love them both but I think I prefer Edward. have George as a middle name it sounds great.

runningrach · 06/10/2010 21:39

I like edward, but might that suffer from the dreaded 'twilight' effect?? If that bothers you at all.

littlemisslozza · 06/10/2010 21:43

I love both. Couldn't have Edward for either of my DS's as a cousin (with the same surname) had already used it and we decided that George has become too popular for us, lovely as it is.

Edward George sounds great!

emmyloo2 · 07/10/2010 12:28

Thanks everyone. I think Edward George might be it!
