Short names for a Meredith?

DH & I approaching some kind of consensus with Meredith for DD due December.(Fully expect he'll change his mind by next week!)

Anyone know a Meredith - what does is get shortened to, or what would you shorten it to? Cheers.

I don't think you can really shorten Meredith. I don't know anyone with the name, but I like it!

Merry or Meri
Mez
Mair/Mer

I know an auburn haired little Meredith who goes by Red.

It's a lovely name

wigglesrock · 05/10/2010 10:03

I know a Meredith shortened to Mere and have also heard Merry.

ShowOfHands · 05/10/2010 10:05

The Meredith I know is a Meri.

I know a Meredith - shortened to Edie (I guess from the Edith part- pronounced Eeedee rather than Eddy - ) . Works quite well. Lovely name

LunarSea · 05/10/2010 10:11

The only one I know is a Merry.

Edie (eeeedeee)

very lovely

Merry. Like the hobbit (in a good way!) I love it! my dh has put foot down, but I think it's really lovely.

poppyknot · 05/10/2010 10:52

I had a friend called Merry when I was little. I think she was a very jolly, mischevious girl..

Love Meredith. It's great as it has so many shortenings. One for every occasion!

HighlandlassinLondonshire · 05/10/2010 10:57

I know two Meredith's both are called Merry for short.

You could also use Edith, however I think Merry is more pretty. Edith is a name in it's own right.

:)

My friend Meredith is known as Dittie, it's a childhood thing, apparently.
It's cute enough, I suppose.

NKinDXB · 05/10/2010 13:22

Thanks for feedback. My dad is apparently convinced it's a boy's name but as he's even more hopeless than DH when it comes to names I'll ignore him!

I know a Mer which works!

BessieBoots · 05/10/2010 13:25

I wanted to call my DS2 Maredydd- It's a boy's name in Welsh. DH said people would confuse it with Meredith, which I can't argue with, really...

NKinDXB · 05/10/2010 13:39

That's interesting. Knew the name had Welsh roots and I actually think it sounds really nice for a boy too, I'd just never come across it.

I knew a Merry at college. I love the name but she was unspeakably horrible so I can't ever use it :( I hate it when that happens!

PutTheKettleOn · 05/10/2010 17:24

I have a 4 month old Meredith Smile

We call her Merry. I experimented with Meri for a while but it didn't really catch on, everyone spelled it Merry anyway so I went with it and now I think Merry is perfect.

It was actually a boys name originally, but it's one of those names that has crossed over and now is pretty much only used for girls.

Just be prepared for everyone to call her Mary! When asked I usually say 'her name is Meredith, but we call her Merry'.

Good name for a christmas baby Grin
