Boo for a girl?

We have just started thinking about names and I really like Boo for a girl? We have quite a long surname so would like something nice and short. I know it sounds quite cutesy but think the lack of a middle name would help.

Thoughts?

Thanks

No way!

velveteenmummy · 23/01/2011 14:24

blimey with all of the wierd and wonderful names you here now why not, it's sweet, there are numerous blues around now as a christian name its similar to that, my dd is called Ruby and gets ru boo and boo as a pet form, my sons middle name is blue, you should go with your heart when I named my daughter Ruby it was deemed strange and unusual now look at it!

Mrsfluff · 23/01/2011 14:27

I think it's lovely :)

treedelivery · 23/01/2011 14:30

We call our dd1 Boo as a little name, but we wouldn't give it as her given name. We use Boo more than her given name though.

I can't imagine the day in court 'All rise for the honourable Judge Boo *' Grin hence we have a less noticeable formal name for her to use as an adult. She may just use Boo, which is her choice.

TallulahDoesTheHula · 23/01/2011 14:34

There is a girl at my DCs school called Kitty - Boo, I think its a bit Hmm tbh

ChickensFlyingUnderTheRadar · 23/01/2011 14:34

DS2 is Boo, but as a nn not on his birth certificate. Please don't use Boo on anything official. Or if you do, expect her to change her name to Susan as soon as she's able.

TheManWhoSoldtheWorld · 23/01/2011 15:08

My dog's name is Boo, imaginatively lifted from Monsters Inc.

flower38 · 23/01/2011 15:32

My Dog is also boo but had her long befor monsters inc shes 14.

SoupDragon · 23/01/2011 15:33

Oh for the love of god, if you want to use the name Boo, get a pet, don't have a child.

working9while5 · 23/01/2011 15:47

Boo is what my 13 month old shouts when he wants to nurse. "Booooooooo! Boo! Booo!"

Alternatively, it's something that children should when they want to scare someone.

These things do not endear me to it as a name!

working9while5 · 23/01/2011 15:48

shout not should

RetroMum1 · 23/01/2011 19:24

There is one of these around here (I'm serious) and she came to a baby group with the mother 3 years ago and hasn't been seen since. She didn't get the warmest of welcomes after revealing the child's name so for you sake as much of the child's don't do it as it seems to warrant making you a social outcast around here!

treedelivery · 23/01/2011 19:45

I think with these things the thing to do is imagine it is you. Would you want to be called Boo, and introduce yourself as such at work, interviews, parties etc.

Now I actually wouldn't be too bothered, but I'm not sure how others might feel.

Emjxxx · 23/01/2011 19:46

My DD is 13 and we call her Boo, its not her real name, but she's been Boo since she was born, even her mates call her Boo and some of her teachers. She was Boo, before Monsters Inc came out, she looked like Boo from Monsters inc though!

CockneySparra · 23/01/2011 19:47

Cute nickname, completely bonkers as an actual name.

kayah · 23/01/2011 19:49

my 11 ds says she would be laughet at in primary school, but ok for later :)

MarioandLuigi · 23/01/2011 19:50

She will constantly get people shouting Boo! at her, and they will think its hilarious.

My DN is called Bethany and everyone calls her Betty Boo, so it works as nn.

Duhart · 23/01/2011 20:12

I do know an Isabel nn Isaboo but Boo on it's own... oh dear no. Just no. It isn't fair to your DD to saddle her with such a cutesy nickname of a name, especially without a middle name.

Duhart · 23/01/2011 20:13

Er, its

Mittler · 23/01/2011 20:15

Boo was on my list of possibilities for DD, but DH said no. In retrospect, he was probably right (though I do still like it). There was a Boo at my school, who was lovely. As others have said, it's probably better as a nickname.

freerangeeggs · 23/01/2011 21:12

It sounds like Poo

Hedwig3 · 24/01/2011 09:45

How about Bo (like Bo Derek)?

Short name box ticked and nickname could still be Boo Smile

blowninonabreeze · 24/01/2011 09:54

My dd2 is called boo by her family and quite a few friends. However it isn't her real name, and she's only 2!! I love it, but I wouldn't have registered her as it.

If you're looking for an unusual name, I think you'd be disapointed, as since I had dd, I've met 4 or 5 people who call their daughters boo ( although never as their actual name)

OgreTripletsAreSoCute · 24/01/2011 10:01

Not unless you want her to go through life being asked what her real name is.

TennisFan · 24/01/2011 10:14

One of my DD's middle names is Boo. Most people know about it - althogh it is not the name she uses at school or doctors etc.
She is 7 and has no problem with it, and no-one creeps around shouting "boo" at her either.

It totally suits her - and she can use it for as long as she likes, or not when she is older. I am guessing she will love it when she is older - there are quite enough Rebekahs, Olivias, Ellas, Eves etc round here - she will be glad of something a bit different by the time she gets to Uni!

If she doesnt like it then, she doesn't have to tell everyone.
