Hello!

I am only a few weeks pregnant but am already thinking baby names.... Smile

Potential names so far are:

Elizabeth
Anna
Juliet
Isobel
Isabella
Alexandra

Elijah
Julian

Jonah
Noah
Edward
Jude

What do you think? Any suggestions for other names, please? I have always loved unusual names but now I'm actually pregnant and mostly thinking more traditional or biblical names Confused

I really like Elijah and Jude for a boy. Your girls' names are all nice names. Isobel/isabella probably my least favourite.

Elizabeth - good
Anna - love this one!
Juliet - OK but don't like Jules (which it will be shortened to by someone!)
Isobel - very very popular
Isabella - also very popular
Alexandra - again I like this also Alexia

Elijah - not for me
Julian - like this myself but DH vetoed it for ours
Jonah - think the menaing isn't good?
Noah - very very popular
Edward - love it and all the possible nn
Jude - girls name imo.

Thanks for your replies! I did hear that Isabella is very popular, which is a shame as have always liked this!

Is Noah really, really popular then?

Love all your names. Personally wouldn't choose Isobel due to its popularity but that's a personal choice and its still a lovely name.

I wanted Elijah for DC2 but DH vetoed biblical names, in the end she was a DD anyway so it didn't matter Smile

We only know 1 Noah, so its not that popular around here but do know its Chris Evans' DS name.

Have you seen the baby names statistics just published for 2008?

cece · 03/10/2010 17:17

I know a handful of little Noahs but not on the same popularlity scale as Isobel/Isabella type names.

rubbersoul · 03/10/2010 17:22

Oh I didn't know that about Chris Evans. Haven't seen the baby stats, will google, thanks! Smile

I like all of your names except Noah - really dislike this name.

Lonnie · 03/10/2010 20:19

JOnah I love it

I like Noah too (but dh wouldnt let me have it because of Noah Wyle - Dr Carter lol)

I prefer Juliet of your girls names

autodidact · 03/10/2010 20:21

Not massively keen on any of your boys names. Like all the girls ones apart from Alexandra.

plonker · 03/10/2010 20:34

I love your girls choices Smile

Elizabeth - my favourite ever girls name. Just gorgeous, and so many nn's to choose from
Anna - timeless and classic
Juliet - gorgeous!! My second fav of your list. I don't know any either, which is a bonus
Isobel - lovely. very popular if that puts you off
Isabella - same as isobel
Alexandra - again, timeless and classic

Elijah - lovely. love Eli
Julian - hmmm, actually I'm not crazy about this
Jonah - dislike this. don't really know why
Noah - ok
Edward - gorgeous!!! great strong masculine name
Jude - ok

Phoenix · 03/10/2010 20:37

I've got a 15mth old Noah and I don't know any others.

I like Elijah, Jonah and Jude on your boys list.

Sinkingfeeling · 03/10/2010 20:38

I love all those names, though I'm not so keen on Julian. I have an 8-year-old Isabella (named after my great-grandmother) who suits her name beautifully, though it always seems to be slated on MN for being too popular. There is only one other in her school of 300. If you love the name, I wouldn't let its popularity put you off.

BelligerentGhoul · 03/10/2010 20:43

Elizabeth - love it
Anna - nice
Juliet - nice
Isobel - love it; have one; this is the best spelling imho
Isabella - nice but love Isobel more.
Alexandra - don't like it; I think it sounds hard and I've only ever known 3 and they were all horrible. Sorry!

Lots of people will tell you that Isobel is far too popular. We had no idea quite how popular it was when we named dd2 13 years ago - but it is still a lovely name!

Elijah - ok
Julian - I'm quite fond of it
Jonah - hate this
Noah - like it
Edward - love it
Jude - love it

Great list! :)

rubbersoul · 03/10/2010 21:22

Thanks everyone Smile

I'm glad no one said all my names were crap!

I do prefer the girls names I have tbh- hubby likes them all apart from Alexandra.

From the boys hubby has said no to Jude (people will think it's from Jude Law Hmm) and thinks Edward (which I love) is 'too Twilight now.' Bloody men! May have to twist his arm...

I like all of them with the exception of Jude.

Kathleen123 · 04/10/2010 13:25

Elijah - like

Julian - dislike

Jonah - dislike

Noah - like
