I think I want to change my baby's name! I spent a lot of time of this board when pregnant and put a lot of thought into my baby's name and whenever I came across the 'help I don't like my baby's name' threads I just thought how could that happen? You have enough time to think about it and why would you go for a name you don't like? Well, I apologise!
I had two final name choices and let my DH choose between the two. He chose the name which has actually been proabably my favourite girls name since I was about 14. Two months down the line we just don't feel like it suits her. It doesn't help that it is VERY popular. We did actually consider the fact that it is popular and we both have common names for our time and didn't think it was so bad, but this seems far more common than we anticipated. We cannot go to any play area without hearing the name. We took DD1 to soft play last week, there were less than 10 toddlers there and 3 had variations of our DD2's name!
So what do people think on this issue, are we over reacting on the popularity front? Does it matter if a 2 month old suits her name as surely she will grow in to it? And I'm interested to know if people will guess the name (which is why I haven't mentioned it) I think you will (but don't worry I will be back to disclose it!)

I dont think that you are over reacting - if you dont think the name suits her, and the concern about popularity.
Is she called Evie?

I was also going to suggest Isabelle/a or Evie.

Don't know what to tell you with regard to changing it - I'm in a right tizz over this issue myself - baby not born yet, and name I've loved since I was about 16 is now in top 10 of popularity in US (where I'm from) and top 30 here. I can see myself getting really upset when there are 3-4 in his class, but can equally see myself being annoyed if I don't choose it and never meet another

What's her middle name?! could you start using that?

That way you wouldn't have to do any legal shennanigans and her birth cert won't have an addendum (or however it works).

It's Eve.
Her name is Eve Alexandra. I feel like it's not simple! I've never known anyone to change their child's name before. I can't imagine ringing round my relatives to inform them of a new name! And the fact that she's still so young is exactly why I'm asking now! I think the contender for replacement would be Annabel Eve. I just keep imagining her looking through her birth congratulations cards addressed to a different name!

Alexandra is a fabulous name. Could you use that instead as her day to day name? There's several ways of shortening it if 4 syllables seems to much.

Ooooooohhh you posted before me... I was too busy watching Strictly and didn't notice.
I personally can't imagine changing a name for the reasons you describe... Could you just start calling her by her middle name?
Eve Alexandra is pretty, could you maybe just get used to it.

Eve Alexandra is lovely - I honestly haven't heard Eve that much. The only one I know is grown up.

I was going to guess Isabella or Ava as I hear them all the time for babies. If it really bothers you maybe swap them round?

I love Alexandra, DH doesn't! I got it as middle name as DH chose DD1's middle name! He wouldn't go for it as day to day name :(
I think we probably would get used to it, I think probably anyone suits their name after a long enough period of time calling them it! We just never had this with DD1's name which just felt really "right" from day one!

OP do you still like the name? taking aside that you meet a fair few of them at the moment?

My 12 year old was named Phoebe because dh hand wanted it since hew as 14 she was born Feb 98 it was not on the top 100 list that year it went in as the higest riser at 43. We regularly meet other Phoebes at her age she has always been in school with other Phoebes but even now 12 years on I LOVE the name and it is special for me because of the way and reason why we named her it.

If you still feel tha tway about it then forget about how many Eva/ Ava/ Evies and Eve (whom I have to say I do not see that many off) you come acrross and just enjoy your dd

it is a beautiful name btw

TBH it sounds like you don't like it much, and wouldn't even if it were less popular.

What else was on your shortlist?

I think this happens quite a bit really, and you don't want to be going round calling her "oi" or something - I mean if the parents don't like the DC's name then why the hell keep it?

DD3 is 10 weeks and only now do I feel she is Amy. Her middle name is Clementine and Ive been calling her Clemmy but DH didnt want it as a 1st name.
If YOU still love the name could you not start saying Eve Alex with DD2 (Chloe) I use her middle name all the time as it flows nicely and there are a few Chloes about. I love Eve btw and dont know any but loads of Evie's.

I don't think I've ever known an Eve and have rarely heard it when out and about... I think it's a lovely name :)

if you weren't coming across so many other little girls with the same name, would you still want to change it? i've never met anyone called Eve where i live.

i'm starting to feel like ds1's name, which i thought was unusual at the time, is becoming more common but i'm sure (hoping!) he won't be in a class with 1/2dozen kids with the same name so it's not that big a deal in the long run. i've never felt 100% right about ds2's name - he had 2 names for 6weeks! but once we'd decided i couldn't change it. we call them some fantastic nicknames at home so don't often say their 'proper' names!

Though Annabel Eve is lovely -- I would go ahead and change it if you've really gone off it and you're both in agreement. And you can get rid of the baby cards; she won't be interested in them anyhow.

I had a wobble around the 2 month point. Not to the point of considering changing it but I did feel like it might not be her. You have the whole of the first year to change it I think - so give it a couple more months
