I will be using it anyway, just trying to gauge opinion, as many mums now, or women younger than me pull their faces as if it were the most horrific name on earth.

Yet all the older people I tell seem to love it, am I giving her a name which will result in funny faces from her peers?

Love it.

KTRace · 30/09/2010 21:44

It is a fabulous name, I couldn't use it due to Aunt and Cousin (of DC) of same/similar name.

Jojay · 30/09/2010 21:45

Fantastic name, and that of my future imaginary daughter Grin

Jojay · 30/09/2010 21:46

And I am very young, hip and cool btw

MumInBeds · 30/09/2010 21:46

I'll admit bias but I like it, and potential shortenings.

tammytoby · 30/09/2010 21:47

Elizabeth is a classic name with lots of nickname potential. It is a 'safe' choice imo.

Currently, 'cute' names seem more fashionable for girls e.g. Tilly, Lilly, Daisy, Maisy, Ellie etc. That is why some may find Elizabeth slightly old fashioned.

LauraNorder · 30/09/2010 21:47

Lovely! I wanted to call DD2 Elizabeth but DH didn't share my enthusiasm Sad

suzikettles · 30/09/2010 21:47

Love it.

It's a beautiful name in its own right and v flexible wrt nicknames.

hatwoman · 30/09/2010 21:47

classic. lovely name. however you might want to decide how to handle the inevitable abbreviations. I'm one - (did I say it was a classic and lovely name? Wink) and I announced aged about 13 what shorted version I wanted. which was great for me. and mum didn;t mind either...but...if there are any you don;t like you might do well to get in there first.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 30/09/2010 21:48

Elizabeth is a beautiful name, a true classic. So, so many excellent nn possibilities too.

onimolap · 30/09/2010 21:48

Love it: at least one in each generation of both sides of my family, all shortened in different ways. Fab, versatile name.

Quattrocento · 30/09/2010 21:48

It depends whether or not she is frumpy and dumpy

BuntyPenfold · 30/09/2010 21:48

I know a one year old, it is also my daughter's name, but she is 30 now. I know she likes her name.
I love it of course.

piscesmoon · 30/09/2010 21:48

Lovely and will never date. It has the advantage of lots of short forms and they can choose their own when older.

MrsJohnDeere · 30/09/2010 21:48

Love it. Would have used it if I'd had a daughter.

HollyGoHeavily · 30/09/2010 21:48

Elizabeth is a lovely name and has loads of pretty potential nicknames - Lizzie, Beth, Betty, Lisbet etc etc. But then I am a sucker for the classics :)

FunnysInTheGarden · 30/09/2010 21:49

Love it. Would have used it for hypothetical DD! Snap Jojay only I am prob 20 years your senior! Shortened to Beth

CharlotteLER · 30/09/2010 21:49

Elizabeth is lovely! So it may not be 'hip' but its a classic. And lots of shortenings to choose from.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 30/09/2010 21:50

Quattrocento - there's a form of Elizabeth to suit every body type Wink

FunnysInTheGarden · 30/09/2010 21:51

and Libby, love that as a short version

Haliborange · 30/09/2010 21:58

Lovely. Classic and beautiful.

I liked Beth for DD1, but in laws are German and can't pronounce 'th' so that wasn't happening!

Ragwort · 30/09/2010 22:00

Agree - I love it Smile - I also love the classic names.

skidoodly · 30/09/2010 22:02

Beautiful name, total classic.

My DN is called this and everybody loves it.

DH vetoed it because although he thinks it's a great name, he hates ALL the short versions and was sure one of them would end up being used.

emmyloulou · 30/09/2010 22:02

Yes I love the "full" name as it stands, I think it's a classic. There are so, so many shortenings out there too which I quite like.

So many possibilities, I think if it were to start being shorterned my fav at the mo is Beth, but we'll see none of my other children (boys) have shortened their names yet.

But I think that's the explanation behind the funny looks I get from some other mums at the moment as it's not an "in" name, I guess.

I don't love it sorry. But appreciate that it is a classic. I love all the shortened versions associated with it however.

I teach in a primary school and in our infant department there are 2 elizabeths, so not hugely uncommon... not enough to warrant funny looks!
