I'm 6 weeks preggo, so I know its a bit early but I'm already obsessed with names & can't get anything else done at the mo! I had name for DS picked out before he was conceived! Any more suggestions? I like slightly less popular names so that there won't be 2 or 3 in her class (I have boys names already)

I like:

Madelaine (pron madda-lane)
Madison (getting popular?)
Franchesca
Nina (but rhymes a bit with surname...silly?)
Natasha
Nakita
Serena
Eliana

Although none of those quite fits the bill so any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Love your list. Am baby name obsessed too! Doesn't help that DH is not!!

Madelaine (will become Maddie though - as girl in DD1's class, and a mum)
Madison (as above, but a bit chav? Sorry)
Franchesca (great. Not common. Will be Fran, though)
Nina (Great - uncommon, can't be shortened, sounds cool and clever)

Natasha (Was 80s chav but should make a return re N Richardson. Love it. Sounds elegant!)
Nakita (Mmmm - bit try hard)
Serena The Best yet!
Eliana Fab, Fab!

Good luck. What about boys? They are sooo hard to find.

Haliborange · 29/09/2010 21:30

Madelaine - is ok
Madison - I find this quite try-hard
Franchesca- prefer it spelled francesca
Nina - is nice but not if your surname rhymes (remember "Julia Gulia"?)
Natasha - I like
Nakita - prefer it spelled Nikita, but unless you're russian I think it's a no-no
Serena - is nice
Eliana - ditto

taegsmum · 29/09/2010 21:39

ooh thanks for the great advice! yes i was umming & aahing about nakita too, im not russian...i dont think its going to happen! our surname actually rhymes with Lila...iyswim?

boys i like:

ashton

Have you discovered Nymbler site for baby names? You can put in six names as inspirations and nymbler generates suggestions based on them. Strangely, when I did it, lots on my list came up!!

MuffinMouse · 29/09/2010 21:46

More great names here. I really like Fabian, but if you ran it past a few men, you might get a strong aversion.

fabian
sebastian - good
ethan - good, slightly popular
kieran - like
reuben - like
ashton - not sure

Looking at your list, what about:
Tristan
Oscar
Roman
Tobias
Nathaniel

taegsmum · 29/09/2010 21:48

yes why is that? DH does NOT like fabian!!

i like yr suggestions...tristan is a fave but is the name of best friend's son so bset not to use!

DH also doesn't like nathaniel, i've tried that one on him a few times at random intervals hoping he's forgotten he didn't like it...he hadn't Grin

i'll try nymbler too, thanks

What about Genevieve?

OP posts:
MuffinMouse · 29/09/2010 23:01

Love Genevieve. It's on my list but can't convince DH or mother. I also have Serena but same problem with DH. I like the middle eastern version Suraya. But DH not playing ball. We will probably end up with John and Jane if he has his way!

taegsmum · 29/09/2010 23:54

ooh we are on a similar wavelength you & i! i liked saraia - think it is pron the same - but DH wont go for it. just suggested genevieve to him and he seems to like it...at least he didnt veto it immediately but gave a small nod Wink
