dd2 due in 12 weeks. we cannot come to an agreement on names. we have very different tastes as you will see below.

my favs
Alanna
Freya
Mia
Lola

dp's shit list
Liara
Alaia
Neveah (yes, he is serious)
felicity

he did like Alanna, but his sister threatened to disown us as she was saving the name for her future dd. she has since sort of backed down but now he is saying he doesn't like it.

it's starting to get me down abit tbh. i just can't see us agreeing and i fear i may end up backing down when i really don't want to.

any suggestions?

Anna
Lara
Laura
Nia

what is DD1's name to give us some ideas of what you have agreed on before?

thisisyesterday · 27/09/2010 21:43

how about

Juliana
Maya
Olivia
Florence
Frances
Lily/Lilian
Elise
Lucia

i really like Felicity tho. can be shortened to Lissie which is lovely

Clarabumps · 27/09/2010 21:54

OMG totally with you on this one..stick to your guns..one of you has to back down and it CANNOT be you..even wait till you're in labour, show him how much pain and then say"i deserve to name this baby..your bit of babymaking was fun"
NO no no no no no not neveah..or alaia..or any of them. best of luck honey!

BelligerentGhoul · 27/09/2010 21:56

I like Felicity and Freya. Don't like any of the others, sorry.

I think you need to go back to the drawing board and find a compromise. You'll get there - we didn't decide on a name for dd2 until I was in the birthing pool!

musicmadness · 27/09/2010 22:09

I like Mia and Liara If you really can't agree go back to the drawing board. I don't think either of you should have to back down.

How about:
Lara, Maria, Lisa, Lucia, Julia, Sophia, Aria?

you both seem to like names ending in -a so maybe you could try listing as many of them you can think of.

FluffMacDuff · 27/09/2010 22:22

Mia, Freya and Felicity are my favourites from the list. Neveah is either hand cream or heaven spelt backwards and incorrectly?

How about

Anya
Malia (MaLEEa)
Lara
Leona?

rowingboat · 27/09/2010 22:27

I don't like either of your lists. I think your list has been done to death and his list is weird apart from Felicity.

mumatron · 28/09/2010 08:15

thanks all.

rowing i feel a bit like that about my own list. it's really been a struggle to think of those names and i'm not 100% on any of them.

rushing off to work now but will go through the other suggestions soon.

and dd1 is kadie.

stillfrazzled · 28/09/2010 08:59

Not that I'm biased, mumatron, but I think you should win Grin

But given that some of your names have the same sort of sound, there should be a compromise.

How about Alicia? Or (this was my DD name but obv will never use it now) Lyra?

5DollarShake · 28/09/2010 09:00

For the love of God, don't let him name your child Neveah!! It is such a 'hunni' name. Confused He may just be the first male on the face of the planet to actually put it on their own short list. Grin

I'm not keen on any of your names, but his are definitely worse more questionable.

megonthemoon · 28/09/2010 09:06

Start the whol process again. Wipe all the names you have off your list and go back to a longlist.

DH and I did this at about 34 weeks when we only had 3 names on a shortlist that we could vaguely agree on and even then weren't certain about those. A name popped up in discussion then that we really liked and put it on the new slightly longer shortlist and when DD was born on Saturday it was obvious that that was who she was! If we had just gone round in circles with the shortlist we had at the time then she would never have the beautiful name she has now :) So wipe everything off the list and go through the books from A to Z independent of each other and write down everything you like, and then see what coincides. It wouldn't surprise me if most of the names you have now fall off and you end up with something completely different!

LittleCheesyPineappleOne · 28/09/2010 09:07

You both need to expand your lists a bit - at least 7 or 8. Then take it in turns to veto the most objectionable names from the other's list and eventually you'll be left with three or four (from 16-20) which you can argue about, and hopefully decide from.

Neveah is shocking though.

TooBlessedToBeStressed · 28/09/2010 09:30

Neveah:o

rowingboat · 28/09/2010 09:53

Do you have anything in your backgrounds which could give you a united approach to name finding? I'm thinking family in Ireland or Scotland or somewhere outside the UK. Perhaps you could search in those kinds of areas.
You both seem quite keen on names ending with 'a' do you think that's something you would both like?
[http://www.thinkbabynames.com/ This site] is amazing for baby names, there's every permutation on there. You can search for names with your preferred ending, but it must be more than one letter, so you could search for girls names ending in 'ra', 'ta' etc... and see what comes up.
Good luck!

rowingboat · 28/09/2010 09:55

Sorry did that wrong! This is the link.
Allegra?

rowingboat · 28/09/2010 09:57

Just did a search for girls' names ending in 'ra' and the first name was 'Abra'.
Thought it was cute and of course the child would spend their life being called Abracadabra. Smile

mumatron · 28/09/2010 18:57

frazzled we both love lyra but is almost identical to the bloody dogs name! we tried using it in conversation and the dog kept getting up and coming over.

no real links to any other cultures apart from welsh and we have exhausted that avenue i'm afraid.

back to the drawing board it is.

and don't worry, neveah will not be happening. i have threatened to sneak of to register her alone if i have too.

OP posts:
rowingboat · 28/09/2010 19:46

Mumatron I can see you sneaking off to the registry office, in your nightie, with baby sick on your shoulder and slippers on! Grin

mumatron · 28/09/2010 20:17

i can see it now, 'just popping to the shops love, wont be long!' then sneaking into the reg office.

i never noticed all the 'a' ending banes before and now i can't stop thinking of them now Confused

OP posts:
mumatron · 28/09/2010 20:18

banes? obviously meant names! sorry for the shocking spelling/grammer in my posts. i blame dp the stress Grin

OP posts:
rowingboat · 28/09/2010 20:27

But the possibilities are endless Mumatron: banana, sultana, pyjama... spoiled for choice.
