Picture yourself in ten years' time. Calling your child Cullen because of Twilight is the equivalent of looking back on photos of yourself with a spiral perm, blue mascara and bubblegum jeans.

The words "what was I thinking??" will pop into your head. Grin

Trust me on this.

BikeRunSki · 28/09/2010 13:09

I have never read any Twilights. I have a sort of nephew called Cullin, and I rather like it, despite growing up a few minutes walk away from a Cullen shop.

GetOrfMoiLand · 28/09/2010 13:13

lolol you nutter

Jusy cut to the chase and call the child Vamp.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 28/09/2010 13:24

Cullen the place

Fish soup

Twilight

3 good reasons why you may want to rethink Grin

I think the Twlight link is fine, if you're happy with some people linking the two immediately. (Also, remember that not EVERYONE will link it, most Mumsnetters will know of/read Twlight..but there is a large percentage of people out there who would have no idea of the link. i.e men, anyone over the age of 40ish). However, I would be worried that people will constantly mishear and mistake Cullen for Colin!

BelligerentGhoul · 28/09/2010 21:12

Oh dear no - sorry.

anonymosity · 28/09/2010 21:42

Its a bit like all those baby Kylies and Jasons from the late 1980's

LaRagazzaInglese · 28/09/2010 21:59

I haven't seen twilight don't even know what it's about! but i do know someone called Cullen, he's a Welshman, I really like it, I think it's a good strong name and not faddy at all. :)

Lovethesea · 29/09/2010 08:47

Cullen skink

SirBoobAlot · 29/09/2010 11:14

Terrible.

deliakate · 29/09/2010 12:10

It sounds nice, but I would always think of skink. Do you like Callum?

shell96 · 29/09/2010 14:12

i like it :)

GladioliBuckets · 29/09/2010 17:00

Colin.

fayc84 · 06/10/2010 12:25

my friend is expecting a boy and is thinking of Cullen because she and her husband love spending time in the Scottish village of the same name. I think it's nice. Wasn't aware of the Twilight connection.

katiepotatie · 06/10/2010 12:28

Cullen Skink was the first thing that came to my mind.

AvadaKedavra · 06/10/2010 12:29

No because I live not a million miles away from there and it's just..... wrong Confused- sorry not much of a reason really, but still, nooooo!
Plenty of other Twi-names to choose from.

escapologist · 06/10/2010 12:30

DS has a friend called Cullen. He's just coming up 11, so no twilight connection there.

However, he does have the problem that people assume he's saying Colin when asked his name (something which isn't helped by his strong regional accent). I wouldn't necessarily worry about that though, everyone thinks I'm saying my name is another one because of my strong regional accent. It doesn't bother me.

seb1 · 06/10/2010 12:31

Fish soup

batsforlashes · 06/10/2010 18:57

There is a very old Irish name Culainn ( pronounced cullen) - pre dates Twilight by a good millenium ;-)

It comes from one of the ancient Celtic mythological stories.

LisMcA · 06/10/2010 19:25

Love it! Go for it.

And if people think all the mothers of Kylie's or Jason's regret naming their children, get real. My child could be called Poop and I'd still love them with all my being.

pooka · 06/10/2010 19:27

Twilight
Fish soup
Defunct convenience store.

None of which are great associations IMO

Fluffypoms · 06/10/2010 19:28

I like it! Smile

and have never seen twilight. Shock

girliefriend · 06/10/2010 19:29

sounds horrible to me.....

Cicatrice · 06/10/2010 19:31

If you're thinking of moving to Moray it might be a problem, although there are plenty of Keiths kicking about round there so people would probably get used to it.

AvadaKedavra · 06/10/2010 20:48

And Nairns too Confused
