unusual meaning outside the top 50 preferrably out of top 100 either now or in the past eg not rachel or rebecca ,sara
unusual but not weird eg not mehitabel, jezebel

I love love love Salome but DH will not stand for it :(

She asked for John the Baptist's head on a plate so maybe not the best back story

Just a few from the Biblical section of the Virgin book of baby names:
Claudia, Hannah, Jemima, Lois, Naomi, Tabitha, Tamara.

eeyore2 · 27/09/2010 14:56

Dinah?
Tamara?

sarahtigh · 27/09/2010 15:20

yes agree with DH if deliberately choosing biblical names best not to go for the baddies ie jezebel and salome,
someone mentioned priscilla and aquila but aquila is male( acts 18 v2), my DD is Judith which is biblical but not common but not so unusual that she will spend her life spelling it out slowly on the phone etc

a can only think of a few not mentioned so far

Eunice, the early form of sarah which is sarai damaris bernice orpah

musicmadness · 27/09/2010 16:00

Lilith
Leah
Miriam
Julia

dexifehatz · 27/09/2010 17:02

How about Jerusha? I have a friend called Jeszemma which sounds kinda biblical.

mrsgordonfreeman · 27/09/2010 17:06

Judith is a deuterocanonical name so I suppose it depends on your definition of biblical...

My dd is also Judith, I chose it for the same reasons as you, Sarahtigh!

I also like Dinah but my cat got there first. From experience, a Dinah spends a lot of time correcting people who think it's spelt "diner".

maktaitai · 27/09/2010 17:09

Tamar. I love this name.

mathanxiety · 27/09/2010 17:36

Cherith, of course.

whenskiesaregrey · 27/09/2010 17:43

Ruth is nice.

purpleturtle · 27/09/2010 17:44

I have a Susannah who actually complains that we don't know anyone else with the same name. Hmm She's 9.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 27/09/2010 17:45

Maryam as an alternative to Miriam
Deborah
Ruth
Hannah

Doh! Just seen 4 of my suggestions are in your 'no' list. Must read threads more carefully! Still - Lois wasn't, and I think its a lovely name.
