Pronounced El-ee-aura. It's unusual I know and we've really struggled to find a name for a girl. DH is dead set on it, I'm not so sure because I am worried about what people might think. Maybe I'm a bit too straight laced :o

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BelligerentGhoul · 24/09/2010 19:14

Oh dear, not fond of that, sorry. It sounds a) made up and b) a bit like a fabric conditioner.

Am really sorry.

Eloise? Esme? lenora? Laura? Elise?

5DollarShake · 24/09/2010 19:14

I've not heard it before. Where did he get it from?

mathanxiety · 24/09/2010 19:21

It's a combination of every pedestrian frilly girl's name out there; sounds like something a committee came up with.

It also sounds like some drunk with a plummy accent or Peter O'Toole playing some drunk with a plummy accent trying to say Laura late at night.

Tell him NOOOOOOOOOO.

MadameCheese · 24/09/2010 19:30

Ha ha! No, it's a hebrew name so pretty old, but not terribly popular I see in the west :o. I like Anna, what do you think?

MorningGloria · 24/09/2010 19:32

Sounds made up.

Anna MUCH better.

MadameCheese · 24/09/2010 19:33

I know what you mean, oh dear poor DH!

Smile MadameCheese. There are gorgeous Hebrew names out there if he likes Hebrew names. That particular one just has a lot going on, in all directions, all at once.

sweetkitty · 24/09/2010 19:38

It's nice although I prefer Eliana

MadameCheese · 24/09/2010 19:57

Yes, we looked at Eliana too. Believe me we've trawled through them, we both chose the name based on meaning as much as anything Hmm, what to do?

Nice Hebrew names -

Elizabeth
Naomi

Lots more but can't think at the mo!

MadameCheese · 24/09/2010 20:01

I know, some names I've discounted by association with girls I knew at school.

Sounds like a soft drink

Lonnie · 24/09/2010 23:11

I love it its beautiful and people will get used to it and laern to say it

elterwater · 24/09/2010 23:19

Sounds sooooooo made-up.

Lovethesea · 25/09/2010 10:08

I would think I was hearing Elinora.

Anna is lovely.

ChynaDoll2006 · 25/09/2010 11:30

What about Amiela, I think thats Hebrew. am-ee-ELL-a.

Violet5 · 25/09/2010 11:42

We liked a similar name for this baby if she had turned out to be a she and not a he.
We liked Ellora/Elora and liked Elle or Laura as a nn.

meadowlarks · 25/09/2010 13:43

I like it, but I think people will assume it's made up. My favourite girl's hebrew name is Ophira (Uh-fee-ra), though I'm sure you've already heard of it.

sparkle12mar08 · 25/09/2010 18:30

Eliora sounds made up, even if it isn't. And reminds me instantly of the Kiora song! How about Alana for a similar sound?

lecohen · 30/09/2010 08:55

Well I love it but am biased as DD2 is called Elora and I adore that name!
