Does/has anyone else got to the stage where they don't like any names? Fed up of browsing books and websites filled more idiotic 'names' than realistic suggestions? Sick of hearing the same names repeated over and over as friends name their babies? Tired of coming up with a possibility only for dh to veto it or vice versa? What do you do? Short of naming it 'Bsby' (which apparantly is a real option for some parents)...

Sorry, naming it 'Baby'.

Bsby could be interesting!

OMG yes

We had such a hard time coming up with a name for DD2.

In fact it wasn't much better with DD1 until DH had a flash of inspiration.

What we did was made a shortlist of the names we liked best. Then forgot about it. Then decided the day she was born.

Then I just insisted we decide because I knew if we didn't make a choice that day she would have been 3 before we decided.

Also once she was born some of the sillier names on our list suddenly didn't appeal any more.

Could you post your requirements and see if people can come up with anything?
Otherwise I agree with skidoodly, forget about it for a while.

I am bored of names, cant see wood for the trees and am thinking of naming it Blank. How can i have a book of 10,001 names and not find a single one i like!!

deliakate · 24/09/2010 12:25

You have just not found the 'one' yet. You will know when you do :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one, I was beginning to feel like an inadequate mother for not feeling up to the task of naming a baby.

Good advice to step back for a while I think. I just noticed the 2009 E&W names stats are due on Oct 27 which will be interesting reading so think I'll forget about names til then. Should hopefully still have a few weeks to decide by then!

I thought you were considering the name 'Lethargy' ...

I really need more sleep ...

Wholelottalove · 24/09/2010 12:33

Yes me! We have three lovely girls names which I really like but no boy's name. I've gone through so many which have been vetoed by DH, or they're names of family members etc. I really cannot find a boy's name I'm enthusiastic about. Maybe it means I'm having a girl? Got another 12 weeks left so I'm hoping inspiration strikes before then.

runningrach · 24/09/2010 12:48

There seems something very Dickensian about the naming a baby Lethargy; at least it would be unique!

I have about 8 weeks to decide (and have only 3 days after birth to register name as having it abroad).

Doesn't help that everyone asks 'have you thought of a name yet' and then proceeds to give me some suggestions when I say no. Most of which are not good - mum suggested Blossom and my bro suggested Stella... after his dog.

I went through this- and at one point thought 'Number 3' was a viable option for dc3, maybe just 3 for a nick name. Or Trois, but that may have been a bit poncey, as we aren't FrenchGrin.

Then, out of the blue DH came up with something we actually agreed on, but for a while I was dreaming about baby name booksGrin
