Thea! It's my favourite girls name too - I was so disappointed when hubby vetoed it. Quite beautiful.

BunnyLebowski · 23/09/2010 20:34

Naomi but only by default.

Thea is just the most meh non-name I've heard in a long time. There is nothing feminine or memorable about it. Instantly forgettable.

Hope is a no for me because of the virtue/religious connotations.

Naomi imo is a wee bit dated but it is pretty so it would be my choice of the 3.

Lizzylou · 23/09/2010 20:35

Thea, was my name for a girl for DS2.

I LOVE it!

Non name my arse!

SirBoobAlot · 23/09/2010 20:36

Thea if forced to choose one.

Naomi just looks like a collection of letters thrown together. Hope is just such a silly name. Thea looks like it should be short for something.

Naomi is a lovely name! Should be pronounced 'Nay oh me' though, not 'Nigh oh me' like the way some people say it.

I don't agree that it's dated, I actually think it's one of those names that isn't associated to a particular era, I know a few Naomis, from aged 88 down to 2 years old.

Hope is ok, Thea quite nice too.

BunnyLebowski · 23/09/2010 20:42

Maggie kicks the arse of Thea!! It's a proper feisty character-filled name with tradition behind it (so much so that I can forgive the Thatcher association).

Not insipid and wet like Thea.

Bunny, don't be so rude, we all have different tastes, some of the posters on this thread have a Thea!

Lizzylou · 23/09/2010 20:48

Couldn't get the image of Thatcher out of my head, or the sucking girl out of the Simpsons with Maggie, tbh.

susitwoshoes · 23/09/2010 20:49

Thea, definitely. Naomi's awful, and I always think if you name a child one of those 'virtue' names like Hope, they'll turn out to be the most hopeless person ever.

bellavita · 23/09/2010 20:51

I like all three, but Thea is lovely!

VinegarTits · 23/09/2010 20:58

Thea is very pretty and my Fav (maggie sounds common sorry)

NormanNorris · 23/09/2010 21:02

Thea!! It's a lovely name. Not bland in the slightest.

I've never met a Thea so it's very unusual IMO.

runningrach · 23/09/2010 21:03

I like Naomi but DH objects because he says he went out with a girl called Naomi once who was very silly.

cece · 25/09/2010 00:08

I like them all

DD2 was called Hope Sad

and DS1 was going to be called Thea

Naomi my least fav of the three but still like it.

pacinofan · 25/09/2010 11:22

Love Thea, would use Theadora as a full name and shorten to Thea.

Hope lovely as well, both beautiful names.

pointydog · 25/09/2010 11:29

Naomi and Hope are both lovely. Preference for Naomi.

Don;t like Thea.

Bue · 25/09/2010 12:23

I adore Thea. Hoping to maybe have a Thea myself one day but unfortunately DH thinks it's "odd". What does he know...

Would possibly consider Theodora as the birth certificate name as it has a bit more gravitas.

GrecianDudette · 25/09/2010 19:36

As a Thea myself I am slightly biased but I love love love it as a name. It is commented on as being a lovely name by nearly everyone I meet for the first time or give my name to over the phone.

I like Naomi and Hope too by the way. And i have a vested interest in warding off the scary increase in popularity of Thea (most people I meet have still never met a Thea but if MN is anything to go to I think it's going to get very popular!) but I'd say that if you go with it you won't regret it!
