Fay - yes.
Fae - no

Same for Mae and Rae

truffleshuffle · 21/09/2010 12:25

I would say Fay but not Fae

muddleduck · 21/09/2010 12:26

what the others have said.

coatgate · 21/09/2010 12:27

Nice name, crap spelling.

Rockbird · 21/09/2010 12:28

Faye/Fay is lovely, Fae makes me think of that daft faerie crap and looks silly.

deliakate · 21/09/2010 12:29

Faye would be a good compromise, I like how it looks written down.

Fay or Faye are lovely
Fae looks a bit like FAO

I don't get this thing about "alternative" spellings for names. It probably comes from a lifetime of telling people how to spell my name.

Nice name but please spell it properly!

LoisCommonDenominator · 21/09/2010 13:43

Fay or Faye, v. nice.

Fae just looks unfinished and... wrong.

stressheaderic · 21/09/2010 13:48

Fae is terrible. Really awful. Faye mildly better.

Like Camille a lot.

Rhubarbgarden · 21/09/2010 17:36

Reminds me of that deodorant you see in Europe - Fa.

SmacsGonePotty · 21/09/2010 17:55

Sorry but fae makes me think of faeces which is not a nice association at all. I prefer Camille but Fay or Faye is okay.

pigindisguise · 21/09/2010 18:03

Faye (spelt like that) is lovely. Like Camille (although personally I would only use it if I was French), don't like Camilla

theagedparent · 21/09/2010 18:04

I know a Faie

CluckyKate · 22/09/2010 07:59

A bit Grange Hill for my liking whatever way you spell it.

I worked with a lovely lady called Camille - v. gentle & kind sort of name (& person). Camilla ia good too....bit more sparky than Camille [nods]

LoubyLoubyLouLa · 22/09/2010 12:22

Fae and Fay not the nicest name.

Know a Camille (family are French) and not sure if I like it and Camilla reminds me of Camilla Parker-Bowles....

allbie · 22/09/2010 12:26

Fae, Fay or Faye...lovely. I have a Faye.

Sunlightdances · 22/09/2010 12:39

I agree with Bunbaker - a life of telling people how to spell my first name and surname has made me wary of mispellings. I would naturally write Faye, with 'without-an-e' Fay as second.

Kathleen123 · 22/09/2010 12:44

I love the name Faye. I dont like the spellings Fay or Fae.

MamaLazarou · 22/09/2010 15:01

It's awful, sorry.

Camille is very pretty.

coraltoes · 23/09/2010 10:41

Fae sounds pretty, it is a pretty standard variant of Faye. Camille i always think of as a boys name even thought it is unisex. Camilla is a lovely name.

deliakate · 23/09/2010 20:46

I think the faeces comment has finally killed that one for me.

Camille can also sound like Kamil, which is the Masood's baby son's name on stenders.....

so I think its Faye or Camilla. Now to get DH to agree to either !

sorry Blush when you say Fae it doesn't sound bad but when you see it written down it does make think of faeces. There are so few words in the English language with Fae at the start.

elterwater · 23/09/2010 21:05

Fae - crap spelling.
