I am currently 22 weeks and don't know gender, but have quite a few boys names that dh and I like. Girls names oth are a total minefield!! These are some names I like but can't have as already have close family/friends with them or names like them:

Matilda
Charlotte
Grace
Genevieve
Evangeline
Annabel
Madeline
Imogen
Isabel
Sophie/Sophia
Josie
Olivia
Sadie

These are ones I like but there is a silly reason that puts me off
Harriet - boyish/posh??
Beatrice - too posh for us
Clementine - not brave enough, "alliterates" with surname
Esme - like but dislike confusion over pronunciation and am worried it will become uber popular like Ava or Ruby, esp due to Twilight
Isla - dh thinks sounds like "Isle of man" etc when combined with surname

These are names I like but don't love, but there is no other reason for not using them
Rosie
Emily
Phoebe
Louisa
Katherine

I need your help!! Sorry if I sound vv picky!!

Genevieve is my favourite

Haliborange · 20/09/2010 19:33

I think maybe you have quite similar taste to me.

How about:

Joseline (I see Josie in your top list but Joseline is cool and unusual)

Natasha

Elise

Arden (a bit out there but I love it so), also Marin (I am fond of the hard 'n').

Greta

If you like the names you've mentioned above you might also like Ophelia (DD's name). It took me a while to get used to it when DH suggested it, but by the time she was born I loved it and everyone always comments on what a pretty name it is.

Claudia

Anna

Celeste

I love Evangeline - would it get shortened to Eva though?

Very pretty list of names you have there anyway. I know an Isla and I love it.

I have asked my dd's and dd1 (5) likes Emily "because there is an emily in year one" and dd2 (2) likes (everything's) rosie.

Genevieve - love
Evangeline - love
Annabel - prefer Anabella
Madeline - love
Sophie/Sophia - Soph-eeee-ah is too popular. Soph-eye-ah is better.
Josie - prefer Josephine/Josephina
Beatrice - my all time favourite name (also Beatrix)
Clementine - fantastic name
Esme - Esmeeeee I like, Esmay I don't like.
Louisa and Luisa I also love.

The others are too popular for me.

Rillyrillygoodlooking · 21/09/2010 05:55

Genevieve - my sister's name. Its my favourite from your list.

moulesfrites · 21/09/2010 19:41

Thanks for the suggestions - I too prefer esmeeee pronunciation rather than esmay and so think it would lead to potentially annoying situations...

I quite like Miranda, Claudia and Freya....and even Adeline and Arden

Do you think Genevieve too close to Jennifer?? I have a vvv close relative called the latter.
