Middle name to go with Hope

Hi, my DH and I like Hope as a name only I prefer it as a middle name but he likes it as a first name. I'm happy to have it as a first name if we can find a nice middle name as I can think of plenty of first names to go with it if we used it as a middle name but they seem a bit clunky in reverse. Our surname is a fairly unusual one and is a 4 letter one syllable name beginning with an R.

Also, how common is Hope as a first name where you are.

Thank you!

Hope is rare, but truly lovely.

I think you could get away with a frilly middle name.(I'm a sukker for a frilly girls middle name, though Grin)

DastardlyandSmugly · 20/09/2010 18:22

I know an 18m old Hope and I think it's a lovely name. Think a two syllable middle name would go well.

ellesabe · 20/09/2010 20:37

I know a 3-year-old called Hope Eloise... Lovely!

BeccaandEvie · 20/09/2010 20:41

I love the name Hope - its my neices middle name.

I agree about the frilly middle name to go with it though.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 20/09/2010 21:22

Hope Roseanna

Hope Emilia

Hope Elizabeth

Ooh, lovely!
I don't know any Hopes - although I've taught a couple of Honors.

I agree a two or more syllable name would go well.
Have you got any family names you want to include?
We used the name of one of my Great Grandmothers, so family were touched by the nod to family links, but it was too distant a link for any superiority to rear it's ugly head!

What other names have you been keen on?

herethereandeverywhere · 21/09/2010 00:02

Hope Jessica

Rhubarbgarden · 21/09/2010 11:00

What if she's a pessimist?

Faaamily · 21/09/2010 11:08

I don't know any little Hopes. The only Hope I know is an old aunty of mine, and her name is Hope Elizabeth.

I think it's a lovely name.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions - we were thinking something along the frilly/flowery route for names particularly as our surname is quite a harsh masculine sounding name so needs something to soften it!

Names we liked originally include Evie, Lily, Emily, Poppy, Charlotte, Amelia but not sure how some of these work in this case as a middle name with Hope. There aren't any female family names we can use as we have some fairly unfortunate names which I'd rather not continue if I can help it!

I saw the thread title and immediately thought Hope Elizabeth and see that a couple of others have suggested it already. I think with a short first name a longer MN really works.
I don't know anyone called Hope.

minipie · 21/09/2010 15:11

I think you need something soft, multisyllable, ideally starting with a vowel.

So the above suggestions of

Hope Elizabeth
Hope Eloise
Hope Emilia

all work to my ears.

Also:

Hope Evelyn
Hope Eleanor
Hope Amabel
Hope Imogen
Hope Isobel
Hope Alicia
Hope Ottilie (Though actually that makes HOR so not great...!)

thumbwitch · 21/09/2010 15:14

Hope Ann Gloria sprang to mind but I'm feeling silly so feel free to ignore me.Blush

Hope Elizabeth is nice
Hope Felicity
Hope Amelia works

jellybeans · 21/09/2010 15:53

I love it and it is reasonably popular where I live but nowhere near Olivia/Evie etc.

I like the suggested Hope Eloise and Hope Amelia is good too.

Also..

Hope Abigail
Hope Gabriella
Hope Isabella
Hope Imogen
Hope Kyla
Hope Evangeline
Hope Jennifer
Hope Rebecca
Hope Serena-Rose
Hope Olivia
Hope Florence Evelyn
Hope Mary Louise

My dd was very nearly Hope but dh didn't want it as a first name. It's now her middle name and I still love it!

She would have been Hope Isabella Smile

Glory, definitely

maniacbug · 23/09/2010 09:39

plonker same here! Although our reason for not using it was because brother had new girlfriend whose niece was Hope and she went on and on and on about her to the point it no longer felt like 'our' name. But still v v happy with it as middle name!
Ours was going to be either:
Hope Elise or Hope Ophelia
