I did but think its too closely linked to Lara Croft nowadays

FlyMeToDunoon · 20/09/2010 14:14

I know a Lara and never think of Lara Croft but more of Doctor Zhivago [sp?] Lara's theme.

emmyloo2 · 20/09/2010 14:15

Love it! Very classic and underused. Also love Laura.

MollysChambers · 20/09/2010 14:20

I like it.

mathanxiety · 20/09/2010 18:12

Love it. Reminds me of Glendalough in Co. Wicklow, Ireland. The village of Laragh is nearby.

BeccaandEvie · 20/09/2010 20:47

I know a Lara as well and I've never associated it with Lara Croft.

I really like the name as well, not too popular but not completely wacky.

Rach109 · 20/09/2010 21:42

I do like it ,but prefer Clara :)

proudfoot · 21/09/2010 01:59

Really love it, my top name. I don't think of Lara Croft but rather Dr. Zhivago.

IMO a fab name that everyone knows but is still underused, pretty but not frilly and complicated

nappyaddict · 21/09/2010 02:04

I do. I also like Lauretta, Laurel, Lorelai and Laura.

Rhubarbgarden · 21/09/2010 07:50

Lovely.

Ragwort · 21/09/2010 08:01

Lovely name - agree Dr Zhivago rather than Lara Croft (is that my age??)

KAEKAE · 21/09/2010 21:22

I dislike it, sounds common and frumpy.

Ephiny · 21/09/2010 22:07

I like it, sounds pretty and elegant to me. Larissa is nice too.

Teapot13 · 22/09/2010 08:02

Lara in Dr. Zhivago is short for Larissa. I like it.

foreverastudent · 22/09/2010 10:25

It's nice, easy to spell and pronounce and isn't too common.

Kathleen123 · 22/09/2010 12:50

I love the name Lara. I went to uni with a girl called Lara, and shes lovely, a very sporty girl (captain of hockey).

When I was first pregnant I loved long flouncy names. Five months on and I am now loving the short names which are easy to use in everyday life.

getawiggleon · 22/09/2010 20:31

Love it. High up on my list if I ever have another dd. I went to look around a nursery this morning and was surprised to see three coat pegs with Lara on - more than any other name. Maybe it's a name on the up? Also heard one in the park this afternoon too four Lara's in one day!

runningrach · 23/09/2010 21:04

It's very popular in Switzerland (as is anything beginning with L and ending with a!)

Thinkofanumber · 25/09/2010 00:13

Love it! But I'm biased because one of my middle names is Larissa. Wish it was my first name...

CountessVonKnackerstein · 25/09/2010 00:15

Lara is lovely. It's my cousins name.

CheerfulYank · 25/09/2010 01:15

I like Lara, I know a lovely one. :)

NoelEdmondshair · 25/09/2010 01:27

Beautiful name Smile

5DollarShake · 25/09/2010 06:43

Really nice name. Wouldn't think of Lara Croft at all. That was just a flash in the pan and will be meaningless to the next generation.

lostrequiem · 25/09/2010 09:37

Just a warning, although Lara is easy to spell, anyone called it will have to put up with being called different names and having to explain "it's L-A-R-A" then have people go "oh, like Dr. Zhivago!" their entire lives. My sister is called Lara, but she's been mistaken for Laura (so much she atually answers to it!), Clara, Zara, Kara ...
'Tis a lush name though Grin

Flighttattendant · 25/09/2010 09:40

I knew a lovely one, too Smile

Named after the film.
