Which is the better name in your opinion. i'm trying to avoid a name that will date terribly!!

I prefer Edward.

emmyloo2 · 20/09/2010 09:49

Edward!! It's one of my potential names for my baby due in 7 weeks.

I really like Theo as well and considered this but I think it will date a little more. Although it is a lovely name.

What nicknames would you use for Edward?

batsforlashes · 20/09/2010 09:52

Love both names and Edward is on our final 3 shortlist. That said I am not keen on most of the nn's for Edward and think that it is quite a formal name for a very young child.

My only issue with Theo is to do with surnames- I think it needs a longish surname- we have short surname with a strong O in the middle so it just does not work. Also where we live the pronunciation of TH is a bit hit and miss so we could have ended up with a Deo Smile

Enough blabbering from me ! To answer your question ,Edward would be the more timeless name for me !

Edward is much better.

Theo will definitely date and is becoming more and more common.

rachel234 · 20/09/2010 10:29

Definately Edward. Theo has indeed become very common and 'trendy' recently.

Jojay · 20/09/2010 10:30

Theo very trendy and 'now'

Edward is a classic (biased)

babysoon1 · 20/09/2010 10:52

Both are really lovely names.

You could have
Theo Edward
or
Edward Theo
thereby incorporating both names you like. Theo might suit certain personalities more, but can see most people getting away with being called Edward!

mopsyflopsy · 20/09/2010 11:05

If you want to avoid the name 'dating' choose one that hasn't suddenly shot up in popularity because people will tire of soon and it will start to feel 'dated' and 'unfashionable'. I'd choose Edward.

Rhubarbgarden · 20/09/2010 11:08

Edward is a great name. Don't like Theo, personally.

SirBoobAlot · 20/09/2010 11:21

Edward. Theo will date, and is very "now".

pacinofan · 20/09/2010 14:54

Theo. No contest.

Ragwort · 20/09/2010 14:56

Love Edward. Really don't like Theo.

piscesmoon · 20/09/2010 15:03

Edward-no contest.

sophiesmummie · 20/09/2010 15:41

I much prefer Edward too. More classic and solid. Theo feels a little too 'trendy' and may well date more.

Alphabetsy · 21/09/2010 23:12

Definitely Edward - it will never date - but I'm biased as is name of DS

thespindoctor · 21/09/2010 23:17

Theo makes me think of Theo Paphitis from Dragon's Den! Edward is better.
