Helena or Simone?

Any strong feelings? To go with a three syllable surname so I think Helena might be a bit too long.

Both lovely, but I prefer Simone.

Rockbird · 19/09/2010 20:54

Love Helena but it's my boss's name so unusable for me :) Simone reminds me of mullets and white stilettos

autodidact · 19/09/2010 20:55

Simone.

JaynieB · 19/09/2010 20:55

Prefer Helena but like them both.

GRW · 19/09/2010 22:12

I like them both. How about Helen if your surname is too long for Helena? It's my daughter's name. It's a classic name and not as popular as Helena.

sonniebonnie · 19/09/2010 22:13

Both lovely! Classic, underused and feminine.

LittleCheesyPineappleOne · 19/09/2010 22:14

Prefer Helena but only if pn "HELL-en-uh". Helen even nicer IMO.

BelligerentGhoul · 19/09/2010 22:15

Love Helena esp when pronounced He-LAY-na.

onimolap · 19/09/2010 22:16

I much prefer Helena

Bonham-Carter has more syllables than your name, and it sounds fine there - as long as there's a nice cadence, I wouldn't let length put you off.

brimfull · 19/09/2010 22:19

Love Helena

pointydog · 19/09/2010 22:21

For some reason I like Simone even though I sort of feel I shouldn't.

Just13moreyearstogo · 19/09/2010 22:21

Helena

PussyfootingAround · 19/09/2010 22:24

Helena's OK, Simone just makes me think Sim-Moan. Shortened to Moan/Moany. Yuk. Sorry Blush

pointydog · 19/09/2010 22:25

simone de beauvoir though. V cool.

Winedine69me · 19/09/2010 22:32

I like Simone.

It is my name Grin although my name is spelt Semone

Lol at rockbird.

Congratulations btw OP.

SirBoobAlot · 19/09/2010 22:55

Helena, by a long shot. Simone is one of those names where it feels like the parents really wanted a boy, and edited the name slightly to make up for their disappointment, IMO.

Winedine69me · 19/09/2010 23:15

That definitely wasn't the case with me SirBoobAlot Smile

mathanxiety · 20/09/2010 01:17

Helena, which I love anyway -- and I can't get away from the 'moan' syllable in Simone.

jabberwocky · 20/09/2010 01:19

Both very nice. Simone is my favorite.

Rhubarbgarden · 20/09/2010 11:12

Thanks. Seems quite even. I do like Helen too, so that is another option.

Like both a lot - elegant and not overused.

Simone is my favourite.... but I also met a little Helena the other day and thought how beautiful the name way. Think I would prefer to use Eleanor, Leonore or Frances myself which are are similar(ish!).

Winedine69me · 20/09/2010 19:09

Has no-one thought of syllable 'hell' in Helena?

BelligerentGhoul · 20/09/2010 19:14

'Hell' seems to be over-analysis to me tbh. It's not like you pronounce it HELLana.

LaRochelle · 20/09/2010 19:16

Helena

Easywriter · 20/09/2010 19:16

Boxing...?
