Louie?

My Gran's name was Louise, as is my middle name. I've always hated it but I've found I love Louie. Is there any other version of Louise? I know of Louisa (which is a bit posh for me) and Louella.... anything else?

Also, what's the verdict on Donia?

Really worried about this babynaming lark! So much to think of!

WTF is Donia?

batsforlashes · 20/09/2010 09:37

I think that Louie is a boy's name and would not generally be classified as a unisex name. Have not come across Donia before and am a bit Hmm

I love Louisa and don't think it is too posh- you could spell is Luisa which is lovely as well.

My son is called Louie,he is 15 and we have always had lovely comments abut his name but I do think it is a boys name.

Sunlightdances · 20/09/2010 14:31

I know a teenager called Adonia and like that name. Not keen on Louie, because it sounds like an adjective for 'loo'.

Faaamily · 20/09/2010 14:33

Donia sounds vaguely eastern European. Never heard it before, though, admittedly.

Louie for a girl is...um, OK. I prefer Louis for a boy. But if you like, which is the main thing - Lucia? Lucinda? Eloisa?

Louie is an 'old' girls name (used by D.H Lawrence amongst others).
Louie (m) is just an anglacised spelling of Louis (f) though the true Anglacised version is Lewis.

Love the name Louie for a girl, however I think the general consensus will be that it is a boys name as it is so uncommon in the female form.

(I have a Louis(m) so very biased toards this name obvGrin)

3isthemagicnumber · 20/09/2010 17:54

anglicised - did it twice too Blush

Thanks so much for the imput! Louie was my Gran's nickname so I'd never thought of it as not being feminine...

Donia is a Welsh-based name. It means dark-haired imp, which is probably what we're going to get!
