having twins - boy's name

We've got a broad consensus on girls names (likely to be Bella or Leila), but struggling on the boy's. DH just keeps vetoing everything! We've got Scottish, Irish, Arabic connections so should have lots of possibilities, but have whittled down to the following, none of which getting a great response from DH. He's into music so have challenged him to come up with some inspiration... but in the meantime would like to know if any thoughts on these... (the more faddy/pretentious-type names are a 'no zone' here so none of those please!)

John - nn Johnny
Vincent - but has to be a middle name
Valentine - nn Val (family name posted on here before and got some strong reactions!)
Calum -nn Cal
Alec

Conn
Niall
Francis
Daniel - nn Danny
Jack
Seamus

We are also finding boys names hard, but 2 gosh... I think, Alec Francis and Jonny Vincent or Daniel go very well together.

Not so keen on Seamus, just think of the jokes at school.

Other than that, i love you choices, good luck.

Definitely Danny.
Johnny (condom)
Vincent - pulp fiction
val - NO
Calum (Best)
Alec (bet's hubby in corrie ages ago)
Conn (artist)
francis (bit feminine)
jack (nice but uber popular)
seamus (too irish unless your irish connections are strong)

Boy and girl, or don't you know yet?

BelligerentGhoul · 17/09/2010 16:27

I like Vincent but hate Vince. John is okay but hate Johnny.

Not fond of any of the others but Conn is the worst imho.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 17/09/2010 16:31

From the names you've given (and assuming girl/boy twins) I'd go for

Leila & Niall

or

Bella & Jack

I much prefer Leila & Niall but Bella & Jack works and are probably equally popular.

Bella & Leila don't work together to my ear and I can't find a pair that work together in your boys list. Do very much like Vincent as a MN.

Leila and John(ny)

Lovely

Love your girls names.

Johnny is great. Jack isalso short for John, so you could use John and decide on which nn suits him.

I really like Daniel, too.

Valentine is gorgeous, but you'd have to be brave. It is a very strong name - much stronger and more unusual than Leila/Bella.

Really dislike Vincent and Niall, I'm afraid. Vinnie is a cute nn, but they just remind me of my ancient, ultra Catholic uncles.

Seamus is gorgeous, but very Irish. Might sit awkwardly with your girl's names.

Dislike Alec (old, dull), Calum (way too common round my parts), Conn (Connor - nice name but overly used).

Francis could grow on me. Frankie is a great nn.

You are so lucky to be having boy/girl twins! Lovely! Good luck x

Thanks for the thoughts! Most of my side are Scottish Highlands (lots of Bellas, Johns, Alecs) and DH's are all in Ireland (and he's a Vinny so that's out as a first name though personally I think Vincent is a beautiful name - but I can understand the ultra Catholic uncle connotations:)... I also see some 100% English mums out there who can only countenance the likes of Daniel and Jack (least liked by me) but good to have your feedback. Leila I love, again for personal reasons, but it's quite a fashion name these days, as is Bella... but in the end, who cares eh?!

I like Daniel best from your boy's list.

Bella and Danny- so cute!

Leila and Daniel cute too...

Violet5 · 24/09/2010 11:32

I like Leila and Callum (but then we're considering Callum for our baby) Smile

Also like Leila and Daniel...and congrats on having twins Smile

John - nn Johnny - Great!
Vincent - but has to be a middle name - Nice
Valentine - nn Val (family name posted on here before and got some strong reactions!) - Don't like sorry
Calum -nn Cal - Nice - like with Leila
Alec - Not keen
Conn- Not keen
Niall - Nice
Francis- Lovely
Daniel - nn Danny- Lovely
Jack- Boring IMO
Seamus - Great

I much prefer Leila to Bella, FWIW. What about... Patrick (Irish, obv), or Omar (Arabic/Hebrew)?
Leila and Patrick - so nice! Also Leila and Seamus sounds GREAT. Good luck and congrats :)

Would Francis be nicknamed Frank? If so, that's pretty cool.
I like Alec best personally.
