My best friend's sister has had her little girl this morning, and has called her my first choice girls name.

Now I've never met said sister but she is moving house very soon and will then be living about a 50 minute drive from us. This means that when said best friend comes to visit either of us we may all meet up. (Of course we may not.)

Would you still use that name? It's one of 2 girls name we have but is my preferred. I'm due in 3 weeks and worried that my best friend will have to 'nieces' with the same name.

I'd use it.

Congrats on your imminent baby, btw Smile

I think that it's fine for you to use the name if you want to. The children will probably not meet often (if ever), and I'm sure your best friend will be able to 'tell the difference' as it were. The same thing happened to my friend, she searched and searched for other names but didn't click with any others when the baby arrived. The kids don't see each other. You have other things to worry about Wink

Use it. She's not your best friend, just her sister. I don't think it will cause any problems, even if you do meet up on a rare occassion.

SirBoobAlot · 17/09/2010 08:33

Use it.

DuelingFanjo · 17/09/2010 08:36

use it.

Wouldn't even cross my mind that it might be an issue.

bytheMoonlight · 17/09/2010 08:39

use it

ValiumSingleton · 17/09/2010 08:41

I would advise against it if this person was a friend of yours, or in your own circle even loosely, but you have never MET her.

Use it.

Is it a popular name or something a bit unusual?

mathanxiety · 17/09/2010 17:29

No problem using it at all.

SparklyJules · 17/09/2010 17:30

Go ahead and use the name you like.

And 50 minutes away (by car?) is not that near!!

NorkilyChallenged · 17/09/2010 17:30

We had a similar thing with dd1, friends due within a week used same name (and told everyone their name choice from 12 weeks pregnant).

We still used it. And actually hardly see them so we're really glad we did, as we loved the name and had it chosen for years before even ttc.

Thank-you.
50 mins by car is how close most of my friends are!!
DH is convinced it's a boy in which case it won't matter.
If it is a girl and if fits we'll use it!!!

I never understand why people see this as an issue.

One of my friends copies everything one of her other friends does. She even bought the same kitchen bin as her...! She's that bad.

I don't know her friend that well. Her friend called her daughter Georgina. When Georgina was 4, my friend had her daughter and named her Georgia.....! I was going to say something to her but I decided to stay out of it.

As far as I know, Georgina's mum didn't have a problem with it and never said anything and they were best friends. It's only a name... unless it's a very obscure name then it's not so improbable that two people who know each other like the same names!

pinkbasket · 18/09/2010 20:18

I would use the name, why ever not?
