Oliver - like but common, not a helpful comment, I know!
Barney (Barnaby) - like but a touch canine...?
Austin - nope, don't like
Rory - love it
Daniel - like it in an understated way
Stanley - love love love
Alex (Alexander) - same as Oliver
Stuart - bit middle aged for me, but not beyond redemption!

ValiumSingleton · 16/09/2010 17:33

Oliver - ok bit bland imo
Barney (Barnaby) - quite like it.
Austin - no, nmsaa.

Rory - really like it
Daniel - really like it
Stanley - no
Alex (Alexander) - ok but lots of them
Stuart - ok-ish. not sure. Like it more than I did five years ago so maybe it's becoming more fashionable.

I like Rory best
(is he likely to have red hair)

PaulineCampbellJones · 16/09/2010 18:59

Stanley, Rory, Barnaby are all fab names.

ellesabe · 16/09/2010 19:01

I like Barnaby and Austin the best.

Ondine · 16/09/2010 19:42

Oliver - Very popular and that would put me off.

Barney (Barnaby) - don't like it much for a grown up. Sweet on a toddler but a 50 year old Barney doesn't sound great imo.
Austin - bit down market - sorry.
Rory - Very nice, name that works on all ages and in all walks of life.
Daniel - Bit bland but ok.
Stanley - Irrational dislike of it but i'm not a fan of those old man names. They all seem a bit try hard.
Alex (Alexander) - Lovely, similar to Rory in that it works at any age and in any job.
Stuart - bit dated for me, Struan is a great name though.

Hope not too harsh there. I'd go for Rory, Alexander or Struan if you like it.

VMumToBe · 16/09/2010 21:41

THanks all for your thoughts (and not harsh at all Ondine!) very much appreciated. Rory is developing as the fave for us too - a good balance between unusual and normal!!
thank you again

Love, love, love Barnaby.

Like Oliver.

Really, really hate Austin, sorry.

Hulababy · 16/09/2010 21:45

I really like Oliver

SirBoobAlot · 16/09/2010 21:49

Oliver - Like, but do think "Twist".
Barney (Barnaby) - is a Purple Dinosaur, sorry.
Austin - Powers.
Rory - Neither love nor hate.
Daniel - Like a lot.
Stanley - Dislike, always seems very blunt.
Alex (Alexander) - Like Alexander, but don't like Alex.
Stuart - Like.

My favourite is Daniel from your list, and maybe Alexander if you weren't going to shorten it.

proudfoot · 18/09/2010 16:53

My favourite is definitely Daniel

thebrightside · 18/09/2010 19:57

Oliver - Quite like
Barney (Barnaby) - Sorry this says dinosaur to me!
Austin - Bit American
Rory - LOVE
Daniel - LOVE
Stanley - really dislike
Alex (Alexander)- like lots
Stuart - dilike

Rach109 · 18/09/2010 20:08

I only like Oliver

Manda25 · 19/09/2010 19:00

Love Rory !!

mathanxiety · 20/09/2010 01:38

Oliver -- Love even though it's popular
Barney (Barnaby) -- Love
Austin -- Love
Rory -- Love
Daniel -- Like a lot
Stanley -- prefer Stanislas
Alex (Alexander) -- prefer Alec
Stuart -- very 70s/80s

If you like Rory, then thumbs up here -- very nice name, masculine yet casual, Celtic fringe cool, pronounceable; it has a lot going for it imo.

sunnydelight · 20/09/2010 02:00

I think Stanley and Barney are too "of the moment" personally and you may regret it later. Stanley to me = an old man in a flat cap and Barney is a purple dinasour Grin Austin will always be a car and I really dislike it anyway.

I like all your others, Rory would be my favourite.
