Hello,

DD2 is due in a week. We already have an Anna Mary.

Wondered what mumsnetters think of the following names:

Isabelle (is it getting too common?)
Miranda
Cecily

Middle name likely to be Alice but have not completely discounted using Miranda as a middle name.

Anyway, all views welcome.

I think Cecily is a lovely name. I like the other two as well, but like Cecily the most.

Cecily, although Cecily Alice is a bit of tongue twister IMO. Isabelle is lovely but it is very popular. Not sure about Miranda TBH. So how aout Cecily Miranda?

smother · 14/09/2010 10:43

I like Cecily Miranda and Miranda Alice a lot!

Although I like Isabelle, there are so so many it takes the shine off a litle.

ellesabe · 14/09/2010 14:02

I love the name Miranda but when I say it with Alice I have the tendency to sneak a R sound in the middle so it becomes Miranda Ralice.

greentriangle · 14/09/2010 14:07

I like Anna Mary, that was a good choice!

Think Alice is very nice as well and would use that for the first name.

Don't like Cecily - not sure why, think it is a bit "frilly" (?) - can't really articulate it! It may be abbreviated to Cess, as in cess pit!

Miranda - this is nice.

Isabelle - nice name but wouldn't use due to the multitude of spellings. For example I know an Izabel, an Isabel and and Isobel.

Kathleen123 · 14/09/2010 14:09

Miranda is my favourite.

I prefer Isabelle spelt Isobel.

I prefer Cecelia to Cecily.

EleFunTess · 14/09/2010 14:53

Miranda is unusual these days, and lovely.

ozmetric · 14/09/2010 15:12

Isabelle - nice, popular for a reason

Miranda - lovely :)

Cecily - Too much of the "s" sound with Alice as middle name. I prefer Cecilia, perhaps with a different middle name? Cecilia Miranda?

Emo76 · 14/09/2010 17:03

Thanks everyone.

Husband has already vetoed Cecilia. good point re all the spellings of Isabelle never mind the popularity. Do not want DD to go through life having to constantly correct the spelling of her name.

And I do agree with the post who said that Cecily can't really be shortened in to anything nice (Cess.....)

hmmm!

I love Cecily, nearly called DD it - I would shorten it to Sissy or Ce-ce. Also love Miranda, but my H was having none of it.

You have good taste!

blinder · 14/09/2010 17:15

Miranda is lush

I know lots of Isabellas / Isobels

mathanxiety · 14/09/2010 18:15

How about Celia? (Celia Isabelle)

I love Miranda Alice or Miranda Isabelle, but Alice Miranda would be my choice.

Ineedsomesleep · 14/09/2010 18:20

Love and Cecily. When I was growing up we had a very lovely old lady living opposite who was Cecily, her name simply wasn't shortened.

When you add up all the spellings of Isobel/Isobelle etc it probably would be Number 1 in the Stats.

I think the Stats for 2009 are due out this month so there may be some names on there for inspiration.

clarabellarocks · 16/09/2010 08:32

I love Isabelle and we've had exactly the same deliberations but decided as beautiful as it is it really is just so popular. I hear it all the time and as a girl from the 70s/80s growing up I had one of those names where there were at least 2 in my class and about 6 in my school year. Still, it is beautiful and you could find you don't name her isabelle and end up not having any at school either.

Love Miranda and Cecily. Both classic and very pretty but not as popular as Isabelle.
