Henry or Roman?

We thought we had decided, but over the last few days we are very split.

We know we are having a boy, he will be brother to Noah and our surname is one syllable beginning with S.

So its over to you mumsnetters, which do you prefer, Henry or Roman?

Roman is an awful name so I'd vote Henry

I like Noah a lot

lallyp · 12/09/2010 12:29

Henry good
Roman bad

strandedatsea · 12/09/2010 12:30

Henry is lovely, although there are probably a few of them knocking around.

Roman too Posh and Becks for me.

onimolap · 12/09/2010 12:32

Prefer Henry (unless you have Russian/Slav ancestry).

pilates · 12/09/2010 12:32

Def Henry

belgo · 12/09/2010 12:33

I like Roman. I know a couple of boys with this name.

I wonder when Norman is going to make a comeback.

ozmetric · 12/09/2010 12:33

Henry :)

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 12/09/2010 12:34

I love Henry - its on top of my list along with Reuben :)

MilkNoSugarPlease · 12/09/2010 12:34

Roman is lovely :)

Alouiseg · 12/09/2010 12:37

I have a Henry, Handsome Henry. Its a fantastic name.

LetThereBeRock · 12/09/2010 13:06

Roman.

PaulineCampbellJones · 12/09/2010 13:18

Love Henry
Know someone very pretentious with a Roman so it puts me off.

AmandaCooper · 12/09/2010 13:22

Henry

StrictlyTory · 12/09/2010 15:45

Roman. Less popular. Just sounds so strong and masculine.

Mniemmniem · 12/09/2010 16:19

Roman - my lovely Czech friend was called this, so gorgeous and smile that could light up a room and lovely personality to boot!

happiestblonde · 12/09/2010 16:25

NO ROMAN
YES HENRY

Out of interest - I always thought Henry could be sort of shortened to Harry but DP thinks I'm an absolute mentalist to believe this.
Who is right?

susitwoshoes · 12/09/2010 16:25

Roman, I'm of the generation to think Hooray when I see Henry. I do actually like Roman as a name.

Bunbaker · 12/09/2010 16:25

Loathe the name Roman. Too Posh and Becks for me as well.

I like Henry, but I prefer traditional names anyway. I have an unusual name and dislike it, so gave DD a name that people had heard of, could pronounce and could spell easily.

belgo · 12/09/2010 16:26

Prince Harry's real name is Henry.

But that's the royal family, maybe that proves your dh's point.

happiestblonde · 12/09/2010 16:47

I like the Hooray thing strangely. Thanks for proving me right :)

Chynah · 12/09/2010 16:48

Both lovely but prefer Roman (am biased though!)

TechLovingDad · 12/09/2010 16:51

How about Ark, or Moses?

fivecrazymonkeys · 12/09/2010 21:30

Happiestblonde - Henry CAN and IS shortened to Harry!! Prince Harry is officially Prince Henry as ALL the Prince Harrys were known (8 I think!!). Our son's middle name is Henry and he shares Prince Harry's birthday!! I LOVE Henry ...

SirBoobAlot · 12/09/2010 22:18

Henry.

And Harry always has been a nickname for Henry. King Henry VIII in a lot of period texts is referred to as Prince Harry.
