Not sure about Amba but the rest are all nice.

nickschic · 09/09/2010 08:13

I like all of those but Grin pleeeeease spel Amber like that its much prettier.....I am planning no more babies Sad but id have Esme for a girl and Christy or Jamie for a boy.

PosieParker · 09/09/2010 08:14

I don't like any of these, I don't dislike them but none would conjure a 'what a lovely name' from me!! Actually I dislike Lydia, Amba and loathe Freya.

beccagrace2 · 09/09/2010 08:25

i love Joe, Jude is nice, not keen on zachary and Jack is terrible. How about Jonathan or Jago as other J names.

Daisy, Lily, Amber, Freya, Lydia....NO

Anna is beautiful, as is Rose but Anna my fav from your list, classic, Annie nn for a little girl and Anna is a strong/pretty, balanced name for a woman. Daisy/Lily are not names for women imo. I like Jane too.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 09/09/2010 11:24

We have a Joe - so that gets my vote. I really like Anna fom your girls list.

thetraveller · 09/09/2010 11:27

joe- like it, but with Joseph as the birth cert name
jude - OK think this will date and not fussed on the Jude Law association
zachary - like, and also like the shortening of Zac
jack - OK but a bit boring for me

anna - lovely, classic, go -anywhere name
daisy - fine for an under-5 but a bit cutesy for a grown women
lydia - quite like this
rose - nice enough, but not wild about it
amba - no
freya - OK
lily - nice

cazzybabs · 09/09/2010 11:28

out of your list i like freya and anna and joe and jude

SirBoobAlot · 09/09/2010 11:56

Joe - Is nice, but only with Joseph as a full name
Jude - Dislike
Zachary - I have an irrational dislike of
Jack - Very dull

Anna - Nice, classic
Daisy - Like
Lydia - Is okay
Rose - Boring
Amba - Is not a name. If you're going to use it, spell it correctly. The correct spelling, quite nice.
Freya - Like
Lily - Really dislike.

sophieandbelly · 09/09/2010 14:27

thank u for taking time to answer-

iam not keen on the whole only if u put this on the birth cert
i dont like the name joseph so it, as all of the names would be as written as of course they r still names in own right not just a shorterned version off etc.

yes amba is a name, u may prefer other version of the spelling, my best friend is amba (shes 30) and i always thought it was a pretty spelling.

anna is standing out to me at the moment, altho my dp has said its a little dull! but i agree its classic rather than boring.

its so hard isnt it!!

jellybeans · 09/09/2010 14:38

joe- I like it and know one who is 'just' Joe
jude- really dislike, girly
zachary-love it and also just Zac
jack- ok but far too overused

anna-nice but bit dull
daisy-like
lydia-dislike, reminds me of Clamydia
rose-like
amba-only like Amber
freya-ok
lily-love it

My faves are Zachary and Amber, then Lily and Joe.

ladyharriet · 09/09/2010 15:04

Amba is a name in the same way that Rooby, Berrul or Krystalle are names. I'm not saying it isn't, but I would place it in that category and think it would be a pain to live with (also it's the name of a mango chutney). I do like Amber though. And I think all the rest are absolutely lovely, you can't really go wrong. I suppose some are more timeless than others if that matters to you, e.g. Daisy, Lily and Freya are very 'of the moment', where Anna and Rose are more steady.

For boys I like Joe (I would put Joseph on bc) and Zachary with nickname Zac. Jude and Jack are fine but not my cup of tea.

SirBoobAlot · 09/09/2010 15:30

Don't use Joe then. Or Amba.

And as an aside, calling your child the same name as your best friend is slightly odd.

MerryMarigold · 09/09/2010 15:43

I have a Jude so I like it! I like Zachary and Joe too (who cares what's on the bc, only the passport office and the bank). Of the girls names Anna is my favourite.

Hope the birth goes well.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 09/09/2010 16:09

There could be all sorts of reasons why OP would want to use the name of her best friend. I'm sure her best friend would be honoured, too.

TessOfTheBurbs · 09/09/2010 16:19

Hmm, I don't know if I'd feel honoured. I think I'd feel like "Um... that's my name! Had you forgotten?". But maybe I'm weird Smile

SirBoobAlot · 09/09/2010 17:47

I'd be creeped out. Especially if it was spelt like that so it was obviously my name.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 09/09/2010 18:13

Well, I suppose if it was exactly the same spelling, when there is an alternative, it might be a little unusual...

MercyMe · 09/09/2010 19:37

Jude and Lydia are my favourites

CharlieBoo · 09/09/2010 20:00

Love Zachary and Daisy. Anna is incredibly dull.

sophieandbelly · 10/09/2010 10:06

hhahaaha suddenly ive turned into a stalker!!
when i said was one of the names i liked she was honoured i liked it enough to consider it for my child (which i would imagin would be the 'normal reaction') any way the reason y i like it is not the question the question was 'what do u think'

thank u for the positive answers people ive got bit of thinking an convincing to do i think!!

daisy - Not sure as an adult name
lydia - love it
rose - boring
amba - bad spelling
freya - nice
lily - lovely

weepootle · 10/09/2010 10:16

I like Jack, Anna, Daisy, Freya and Lily. My favourite is Daisy.

Amba is terrible imo.

mathanxiety · 10/09/2010 15:34

joe- Lovely but only if the full name was Joseph or Josiah
jude -- Lovely
zachary -- Lovely
jack -- No, far too many of them

anna -- Lovely
daisy -- nice for a baby, but not for a grown up
lydia -- Nice but not for someone middle aged
rose -- Lovely
amba -- Not nice, don't like Amber either
freya -- ok
lily -- ok

When you say Amba is the other version of the spelling, that is only true in places where the R is not pronounced properly. Everywhere else, it looks very odd. Your DD may not spend her whole life where she is now. Think of it in an American or Canadian accent, an Irish accent, or even an accent from some part of Britain where the R is not silent.

mathanxiety · 10/09/2010 15:37

About your DP saying no to everything you suggest -- he needs to come up with a list and the two of you need to compare the names you have. Maybe he can't yet imagine he's going to have a baby?

MerryMarigold · 10/09/2010 18:11

Also, I would say if he can't suggest then he shouldn't have a opinion!
