Hi all,

SIL had baby 4 weeks ago; SIL been in hospital ever since due to serious complications following her ecs. Baby home and very healthy. As yet there is no name and SIL wants to wait to get to know baby until she chooses a name with her DH.

Does anyone know registering the baby can be extended due to special serious cicumstances???

Many thanks in advance! This is also on Parenting.

It may be worth calling the registry office and asking them, I've always found them very helpful and understanding. Congratulations on your new baby niece/nephew!

Does she even have a shortlist?? One option would be to come p with the 'best'name she can choose right now and try it out. She could always change within a year of registering if she wants to, as long as the baby hasn't been christened it is quite simple. We are about to change our son's middle names and he is one next week! Not sure about extending - it's an unusual case so best to ask them.

Our local registry office has a session in the hospital so it may be possible to get an appointment to see them there.

She can just register the baby without a first name I think, and then simply ammend the registration when they have decided. Her H needs to call the Registrar to get the facts.

Yes, sparkle's right, they can register the birth without giving a first name, then they will have to get it amended by the time the baby is a year old.

No idea, but that is awful, hope she is home with the baby soon.
