Freeman for a boy?

ClarasMummy · 03/09/2010 11:52

DH really likes the name Freeman, we're struggling a lot this time around, picking a boys name seems so much harder than it was for a girl.

It's sort of growing on me, no idea what to pick for a middle name though.

Opinions anyone?

Not heard of it before, but it seems fine to me, if a little surnamey.

As long as your surname isn't Morgan Smile

A surname and the Freeman's catalogue.

chaya5738 · 03/09/2010 13:08

Isn't it traditionally a slave's name?

Rockbird · 03/09/2010 13:21

TSC glad someone else is as old as me 'cos Freeman Hardy Willis was my first thought :o

Clara is beautiful, I know that ship has sailed for the OP but it's gone to the top of my list :)

kreecherlivesupstairs · 03/09/2010 13:27

No no no no no. Slave name from Roman and Greek times. Also, the catalogue and shoe shop.

LetThereBeRock · 03/09/2010 13:27

It's terrible.

SixtyFootDoll · 03/09/2010 13:28

Would be forever Freeman HArdy and Willis!

Is a thumbs down from me!

ClarasMummy · 03/09/2010 14:59

Ergh, thanks for filling me in on the slavery connotations, feel a bit dumb for not knowing that.

I'd prefer something more classic to go with Clara (my first choice would be Henry but DH hates it)

Most likely it's back to the drawing board for me.

Aw, Henry and Clara would sound lovely together, very classy :)

ClarasMummy · 03/09/2010 15:33

I know, I love it...now I must think of a way to convince DH. It's so irritating that he won't just agree, who's having this baby anyway? Wink

I know a Freeman. Is ok - sounds a bit surname and first name to me though.

Milo was quite high up on my list :) I really like Edwin as well, and George.

Clara and

Quentin
Felix
Edwin

are all lovely imo.

fivecrazymonkeys · 03/09/2010 22:42

Not keen on Freeman. We used to call the shoe shop 'Freeman Hardly Worthit'! It sounds very American ... Keep looking is what I would say and find something you BOTH love - it is out there!!

fivecrazymonkeys · 03/09/2010 22:43

Could you go with Henry but call him Harry - as all the King Henrys have done!! I agree - LOVE Henry!

smother · 06/09/2010 11:17

Clara and Theo

ClarasMummy · 06/09/2010 12:44

I really love Theo but again, DH hates it. I am beginning to think this is going to be almost impossible. We just can't find a name we both agree on. Grr.
