What do you think of Deborah?

What do you think of Deborah as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

Another 70s born Deborah here, and I hate it. I hate Debbie even more though, and even went through a phase of using my middle name to try and feel better about my name! Personally I'd say avoid.

Well it was one of the options for our DD (adult now), and I think she was pleased we chose something else.

I love the name Debbie too

I mentioned it to dh, but he is undecided. I even think Debbie is cute for a small girl.
But I would hate to be called Debbie as an adult, as it is a very childish nn, but can you insist that you are called Deborah? Probably not.

I know 2 Deborahs, both in their mid-late 20s. One is ALWAYS "Debs" the other can take that but prefers Deborah.

70's names will take a while to come back, I think. I'm a Susan, and we don't get many of them these days but there were 4 in my class at primary school!

I don't like it, but I only think I don't like it (because I'm influenced by the fact that it's so dated). I know this because I think Ruby, Phoebe and Libby are very pretty. so how is it possible to dislike Debbie?

Deborah is ok, but it is one of those names which always gets shortened, like say Christopher.

Weegiemum, I think Suzanne is the 70s name and Susan was the 60s choice.

Well I'm 1970 so I suppose I was on the end of the trend ....

Devorah is a nice alternative, avoids "Debs".

The one I know insists on Deb as the short form and that's fine. Kids at school won't associate it with the 70 s and by the time she's grown up the adult feeling for it will have changed. I'd say yes! I haven't brushed up on the rules lately but a high court judge could have it as a first name and so could a rock star

Rubbish and Disgusting my birth name is Deborah my dad gave me the name but I dislike it so much to the point that I hate myself I wished my parents gave me another name like Michelle or Maria I see them more as common names and lovely not dumpy Debra or Deborah 👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾ewww

Sorry really not a fan! Debbie is ok, just (or Deb, Debs, Debo) but there's something dreary about Deborah as a full name.

I knew a few teenagers in the 90’s called Debbie and even then it seemed to old for them. I’m not a fan.

Dated but a sweet nickname like Debo is acceptable
