When your name and surname combine to form a word..

Is this always a mistake? I fear it maybe! :)? Can it ever work or be got away with?

For example, Scarlet Jam or similar...Hmm not a good example. Not necessarily that the surname is a noun but the names could be seen to run into each other to make a word?

I think best avoided, usually.

DuncanDisorderly · 31/08/2010 12:35

My daughter's name runs together to make a name that sounds like a unit of measurement.

Ineedsomesleep · 31/08/2010 12:37

Bad idea I'm afraid.

ValiumSingleton · 31/08/2010 12:51

DuncanDisorderly, I can't think what your daughter's name might be... Confused

ValiumSingleton · 31/08/2010 12:51

Oh that must be it! Milly something anyway!

DuncanDisorderly · 31/08/2010 14:59

yes, her name is Millie something. It's not an actual unit of measurement, just sounds like it should be one.

NoTeaForMe · 31/08/2010 15:33

Hmm, I think it's best avoided to be honest.

Picking names is so hard isn't it?!

jumpingbeans · 31/08/2010 15:39

Wayne Kerr Grin

Psammead · 01/09/2010 10:01

I think sometimes it can be nice. Knew a lady who was considering 'Summer Berry' with Berry being the surname. I thought it sounded quite nice, actually. It's a fine line though between nice and ridiculous.

collision · 01/09/2010 10:06

Was talking to a teacher yesterday about this.

she knew a Phillipa Tubb.

Said quickly it is Fill up a tub!!

I know a Summer Rose and she really really isnt! Grin

I once met a man named Brent Row. He was annoyed at having a street address for a name!

Northumberlandlass · 01/09/2010 12:44

Apologies to either of these women (if they are mnetters). But I have known a Shirley Knott and Shona Dick (REALLY).

Also knew a girl called Jenny Tull...that ones really bad!

MollieO · 02/09/2010 13:52

My first initial and surname make a word. Frankly I've found it to be very very tedious.

Fimbo · 02/09/2010 13:58

I know of a Marnie McKnight always sounded like it should be Marmite

BuntyPenfold · 02/09/2010 13:59

Northumberlandlass I was at school with a Shirley Knott. Her class called her Curly Snot though.
Did you go to my school in Lincolnshire?
Do you have nightmares about navy knickers?
Have you never recovered fron the icy showers?
Do you still only know 3 sentences in Latin?
