When your name and surname combine to form a word..

Is this always a mistake? I fear it maybe! :)? Can it ever work or be got away with?

For example, Scarlet Jam or similar...Hmm not a good example. Not necessarily that the surname is a noun but the names could be seen to run into each other to make a word?

tethersend · 02/09/2010 14:05

I knew him, Hully. Lovely bloke.

Hullygully · 02/09/2010 14:06

Bit beardy, though.

tethersend · 02/09/2010 14:09

Yes, smelt funny. But a lovely bloke nonetheless. Warm.

I knew a Penny Wyn. She could have kept it as Penelope if she wanted I suppose.

I also knew someone whose surname was Daye, and whose daughter was born on the 14th Feb. They were tempted to call her Valentine but didn't want her to have VD as her initials.

Someone-I-know's Mum went to school with a Rosie Bottom.

("What was her name then?" asked my BIL when told this story.)

Hullygully · 02/09/2010 14:11

I always thought there was something a bit fishy about him.

tethersend · 02/09/2010 14:18

Hmm. I suppose he was a bit wet from time to time.

Hullygully · 02/09/2010 14:33

And he was a secret pinko.

WingDad · 02/09/2010 14:44

I know a Will Lee, always makes me laugh that one :P

He has a daughter called Emma, no joke!

Hullygully · 02/09/2010 14:46

I know a Sam Sonight and a Fuk Yu.

Ishouldhavechosenagoldfish · 02/09/2010 14:51

There's an Iva Beer and a Lo Fat in a cemetery near us. Even if it is mean to your kids, it'll give future generations a laugh. Go for it!

My dh and I were put off our favourite boys name recently.
We really liked Angus but my aunt pointed out that he would be called Gus and our surname begins with T so would be called gusty!!
Always nice to have someone else to help eliminate

emsyj · 03/09/2010 18:13

Well I had a very unusual and difficult to spell surname, so was really looking forward to the day when I could get rid of it at last and take on my husband's name. But now I am Emma Lester.

Say it out loud. ((sigh))

raindeer · 03/09/2010 18:32

Just had a little chuckle sorry emsyj

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 04/09/2010 21:55

Shaz10 · 05/09/2010 18:33

Emlyn Hughes named his children Emlyn and Emma-Lynn.

CardyMow · 06/09/2010 17:20

My DD knows a girl in her year called Susan Flay, which isn't too bad, except for the fact that she won an award for cookery last year at the awards evening....and they announced the prize as being for Sue Flay. Which raised quite a few titters from the audience. And no word of a lie, my first primary school 'boyfriend' was called Joseph King. He was known as Joe.

BikeRunSki · 06/09/2010 17:23

I used to know an elderly Horace Cope.

My first name and maiden/work name run together to form a different first name. It is very tedious; many people think that that is my name, but that they don't know my surname.

FlyingInTheCLouds · 06/09/2010 18:08

I know a Wendy who married Mr House.

tallwivglasses · 24/01/2012 01:17

Psyche Del.
Won't say how I knew her but she was real - and rather lovely. Are you out there Psyche?

tallwivglasses · 24/01/2012 01:20

Oh, got carried away on an old thread. Had a bump on the head recently. Sorry. Ignore....Grin
