Leah- is it ever shortened?

DH and I are beginning to start thinking about baby names. He thought of Leah if DC is a girl which I quite like. We know it can be pronounced Lee-ah or Lay-ah and are not sure which we prefer yet.

I am worried that if we went with the Lee-ah pronounciation (which I think is the more popular pronounciation) that it might be shortened to Lee which I am not so keen on.

Just thought I'd run it by a few people on MN. Is it likely to be shortened to Lee?

Please don't comment if you don't like the name as we have been really struggling to come up with names that we agree on and this is one of few!!!!

Many thanks.

I love Lee-ah and have never known it to be shortened.

Can't imagine anyone would shorten it, it's pretty short already. None of the Leah's I've ever known have been called Lee.

my best friend at school was called Leah (pronounced Lee-ah) and no one ever shortened it.

There is also a young lady at my place of work called Leah (also Lee-ah) and I've never heard anyone call her anything else.

I would go for lee-ah rather than lay-ah. It's cuter.

I know a couple of Leahs (Lee-ah) and their names are never shortened by anyone. It's a lovely, classic name.

Two of my friends have DDs called Leah (Lee-ah) - it's a lovely name.

One of them gets called - Lee-Lee by her family (she's 4). Not sure if it will end up being a widely used nn - more likely to just be used by family. :)

My Cat is called Leah (we say it like princess leah - Layah - the french way...long story)

We call her Leah BooBoo (another long story) and sometimes Lay.

I haven't heard it shortened, and I've always heard it pronounced Lee-ah.

I love it. No idea if it gets shortened, but ultimately, you can only have control over nn for a while

I also, on a similar vein, like Lara and Lana
