Ruan, Arlo, Eben?

What do people think of these boy's names? We'd like something slightly unusual but not way out there, and short to go with a long surname. Dh's favourite is currently Noah, but I am really struggling imagining a grownup Noah!

I like Ruan. Not sure about Arlo, can only think about Arlo Guthrie, everyone will think you're hippies. Eben - eh? Will be always having to say No, not Eden...

I love Noah. Also Jonah, or Jonas, Joel.

But Ruan is nice Smile!

I know one Ruan (my nephew) and he is lovely. I have to say I have never met another Ruan or even seen it featured in the Baby Names topic on Mumsnet.

They are all lovely names, which one goes with your surname the best?

MollysChambers · 29/08/2010 22:59

LOVE Noah. Arlo is nice. Ruan & Eben - no.

bigstripeytiger · 29/08/2010 23:02

Have you heard of Noah Wyle? Strangely I have no trouble at all imagining a grown up Noah BlushGrin
I think that Noah is becoming pretty popular now though.

Ruan - sounds like ruin
Arlo - like
Eben - is this pronounced Ay-bun or Ee-bun? Could be mis-heard as Eden.

How about Eli, Milo, Reuben, Jacob, Saul, Evan?

South African friend with 24yr old ds called Eben. I like it.

Also know an Arlo who's very cute so like this too.

Not keen on Ruan.

BibiThree · 29/08/2010 23:26

LOVE Ruan. There was a beautiful blue-eyed boy in secondary school called Ruan who I was rather in love with Smile

mathanxiety · 30/08/2010 00:12

Of the three, I like Ruan best. If you went with the original Irish 'Ruadhan' (Roo-awn) you could avoid the Ruin associations.

How about Aram? (grandson of the Biblical Noah. Like you, I think of Noah as an ok name for a baby, but I have a hard time seeing a grown-up Noah in my mind's eye)

MamaMimi · 30/08/2010 00:35

I like Ruan.

What about Remi?
