What it says on the tin! Which do you prefer? What associations etc?

Nathaniel would have middle name James. Not sure on middle name for Malachi.

Thank-you

Nathaniel James = great name
Malachi xxxx = very unpleasant IMHO

Fluffypoms · 27/08/2010 12:12

malachi is that pronouced Mala-kai?

MrsJohnDeere · 27/08/2010 12:19

Nathaniel

Is there a famous Malachai? All of a sudden lots of newborns are being given this name. Gone from rare to v. popular in the last couple of months.

DastardlyandSmugly · 27/08/2010 12:29

Nathaniel. I'd call him Nate.

horatia · 27/08/2010 13:19

I like both, either would be great :)

Is there a reason why you haven't settled on James as a middle name for Malachi?

Malachi Samuel
Malachi Jacob
Malachi David

kiwidreamer · 27/08/2010 13:20

Nathaniel is a really great name, I love it but we have a family member (that I'm not keen on) with the same name.

Dont like Malachi but what about Micah, just a thought :)

lostFeelings · 27/08/2010 13:21

I came across both names when briefly teaching at school and 2 boys each had those names...

unfortunately all 4 of them were very rude and arrogant and badly behaved - for that reason I would never call my ds like that...

PutTheKettleOn · 27/08/2010 13:24

Nathaniel Jsmes is what both DDs would have been called if they were boys. Now I guess I'll have to get a goldfish just to use the name Grin

FranSanDisco · 27/08/2010 13:25

I like both but prefer Nathanial with nn Nat.

thelennox · 27/08/2010 13:26

Definitely Nathanial

ExitPursuedByABear · 27/08/2010 13:36

Oh I love Malachi. I've been waiting for someone to mention it on MN. Only had one DD myself, but Malachi would have been top of my list for a boy.

Rindercella · 27/08/2010 13:38

Love Nathaniel.

Don't love Malachi.

Engelbert · 27/08/2010 13:54

Ok thank-you. Nathaniel is the winner atm. We did consider Micah but didn't quite make it to final two.

Just need to convince h now. He likes Nathan but is unsure about Nathaniel. Negotiations are ongoing...

I prefer Mordecai to Malachi so i choose Nathaniel.

NotAnotherNewNappy · 27/08/2010 15:16

Late vote for Malachi here.

colditz · 27/08/2010 15:46

FranSanDisco · 27/08/2010 18:30

mumtoabeautifulbabyboy · 27/08/2010 19:55

I love Malachi.
I think of the old Natwest pig when I hear Nathanial!

SirBoobAlot · 27/08/2010 19:57

Nathaniel.

PaulineCampbellJones · 27/08/2010 20:01

Love Malachi. I would have loved it for a DS if I didn't have a Mc surname.

LetThereBeRock · 27/08/2010 21:33

Nathaniel.

Malachi makes me think of The Children Of The Corn, and I think it has an ugly sound.

TakeLovingChances · 28/08/2010 06:59

DS has Nathaniel for a middle name. I think it is a beautiful name, love it said aloud and written down.

However, I didn't like the idea of the name being shortened, I don't like Nat or Nate, so I chose a different first name for him.

MrsJDeere don't know if he's famous in the modern sense of the word, but there's a book of Malachi in the Old Testament.

A1980 · 28/08/2010 20:10

Nathaniel is a lovely name.

Malachi is very harsh sounding, so I don't particularly like it. Also it is getting more popular. This has probably coloured my opinion a little but I watched a Channel 4 documentary over a year ago called The Hospital. The second episode centred on teenage mums. Good god, one of the most uneducated, self centred, rude, chav of a teenage mother, called her baby Malachi...! After seeing her swear at NHS staff who were trying to help her for not giving her the birthing pool she wanted because of her pre-eclampsia (she needed careful monitoring she could not get in a pool) I had zero sympathy. The name Malachi just reminds me of her but that's probably a very bad reason to dislike it.

polkadottytotty · 28/08/2010 22:14

I like them both - prefer Nathaniel to Nathan. Nat/Nate both cool nn's.
