How far ahead was the name Florence Rose Endelion planned?

Wondering abuot the Camerons' baby name of Florence Rose Endelion. Then 'ence sound is very similar to Nancy and the 'endelion is almost Gwendoline without the prefix of 'Gw'. Out of curiosity, do you think the name was made out of choice, they were given fast advice or it was pre-planned long ago?

Dave said they would have to do some 'thinking' about the names despite the smooth coordination with the names of the
siblings and the mother.

St Endelion is connected to Arthur in legend, the name of their other child which is nicely slick. They would have known quite far in advance that they would be staying at their friend's house near St.Endelion, wouldn't they?

Given Samantha's propensity to 'pop', in Dave speak, the baby out earlier than expected, did they already expect that there would be a good chance of her having the baby in Cornwall? Fantastic spin for the electorate. NHS, non-London, just like the masses, some PR fuelled drama of a slight emergency thrown in for good measure too. Would you really leave it to fate? Would advisors allow them to? Even if they wanted to?

They must have already checked out the
hospitals' obs & gynae expertise in
the area before they left London, just in case.

Nothing wrong in this, I quite like David Cameron but I'm not sure that the naming and probability of birth in Cornwall hadn't already been considered as an option.

Tummy tuck was a joke at the seeming efficiency of it, Shaz, though some obstetricians do leave neater scars than others. There's a London one well known for his perfect stitching.

Can't blame her for wanting the obstetrician she knows and trusts nearby rather than an unknown one, who wouldn't. It's an intimate business.

Who would go on holiday three weeks before their planned caesarean, when they knew they had a history of going into labour early anyway, without at the very least checking out local hospitals... and names... and obstetricians...

Hmm... but it's not like they have much wriggle-room when it comes to planning holidays, they have to do it while parliament's out for summer surely, which this year is 28 Jul - 6 Sep, so basically, August. I would think that's why they chose Cornwall rather than the Bahamas or wherever, so it wouldn't be a crisis if the baby came sooner than expected. Yeah maybe they did check out the hospitals, but imo it would be pretty hard to form a cunning plan around the unpredictable arrival of a baby.

I think it's now obligatory for a serving PM to holiday in the UK, to be honest. I think there would be a national outcry if they had gone abroad. So not a reason for the Camerons to skip the Bahamas.

I'm going along with the cunning plan... it'll all come out in his or her memoirs in ten years time, I'm sure. (Or sooner, I hope!)

I understood that her last two children were born by c-section after her first child Ivan was born. I may have this wrong, but I had the impression he was born vaginally and since then, she's opted for elective c-sections. fair enough.

Not really bothered, but I presume her London obs was private - I dare say it was easy to arrange for him/her to be down there at the same time as the Camerons for precisely this reason.

I think Ivan was born by emergency cs, and then the next births were elective cs. Still haven't seen anything to suggest her London obs was in Cornwall and performed the op; I was actually sad enough to google it last night and nothing came up at all.

Give the poor woman a break and stop nosing and salivating about her arrangements (those of you who are)! Apparently her first child's problems were as a result of his traumatic birth. It must all have been very frightening for her, going into labour miles from home. Oh, and she was booked into an NHS hospital in London.

It is beyond belief that they would blithely go on holiday just a couple or so weeks before their baby was due.

Having a similar obstetric history as SamCam and despite being paupers in comparison to their wealth it was so different when my DC was born.

Everything we did, earned or possessed was focused on the safe delivery of our precious baby.

Our expensive, private, wonderful doctor was ready,prepared and on call from about 34weeks.

I rarely ventured more that 20 miles from the hospital from 30 weeks or so.

Like the Camerons my DC was born early.

It's just very odd that they were so cavalier about this pregnancy. Or is there another explanation.

She is known to delivery early. You can't fly abroad heavily pg hence UK holiday with the trusty NHS on hand, plus also seems a PM requisite these days. You can be pretty sure of getting good care being the PM's wife whichever hospital with a mat ward it is. Perhaps they had sussed out the hospital beforehand - so what?

Well, I'd go on holiday in the UK three weeks before my due date, if I was really close to a decent hospital. She's done it three times before, after all!

There is nothing 'beyond belief' about it. It's not like they were heading off to Helmand Province; they were going to Cornwall. It has all the facilities of the rest of the UK and is not exactly a million miles away across land and sea.

They clearly judged the risk and felt comfortable with it. Just because others might not have been OK with it for themselves, there's no need to come over all judgy! I mean for heaven's sake - everything was just fine.

Hsppen to be a bit involved in maternity services in the county and I have no idea where this 'obs' from London talk has come from.

I also believe that the call to alert everyone who was on their way in was as much a surprise to those at the top as to those on the ground.

Obviously they (The Cams / Special branch) would have had to think through what would happen in such a situation.

Also, it isn't that unusual for women to deliver their babies away from their homes (especially in summer in Cornwall)... and for surgeons / obs / mw teams to communicate by telephone (Yes! even in Cornwall) to be brought up to speed on their care/ needs.
