Strong English names

Hello, please come and tell me what you think of my list and feel free to suggest anything else you think I might like.

We have a very bold surname which can add comedy value to the most innofensive sounding name (think large farm animal Grin). For this reason, I feel we need to go with a strong old English name. We already have an Eliza.

Girls

Rosina
Tabitha
Matilda
Nancy
Kitty
Katie

Boys:

James (DH choice, I like it but fear he'd be one of 6 in his class)
Toby
Caleb
Benjamin (out as family name)
Arthur (out as comedy clash with surname)
Noah (out as comedy clash with surname)
Rufus (I love but DH says no way)

Erm... scraping the barrel now.. Help please?

You see, now I've stopped thinking of boys' names and I'm trying to think what your surname is!! :)

Love Kitty and like Nancy, your other girl's names are nice apart from Katie.

Love Rufus and like Toby. Not keen on the others.

I like your girls namess, but I don't think of them as being strong names really. Especially the diminutives. Very pretty though.

I love Francis, Patrick and Edmund.

Out of those names I would only consider Nancy and Arthur to be strong english names.

Nancy goes very well with Eliza. What about Albert/Gilbert/Edgar for a boy?

Clary · 27/08/2010 20:52

Belgo watch out with yr Nancy and Arthur - heading into dangerous Cameron territory there!

Florence Rose anyone?

smother · 27/08/2010 21:12

Katherine with NN Katie

Gemima Bull also sprang to mind.

Or Arabella Bull - that's cool actually!

I think the vowel ending works well (as in Eliza - good choice by the way) and the repeated B sound. Hmm.....

Isabella Bull.

Sorry, it may not be Bull but I'm assuming so!! I'm only trying to be helpful but will stop now!

I'm so glad you've posted your name. I'd convinced myself it was Horse...

Surprise · 27/08/2010 21:23

More suggestions:

Boys

John
Rex
Leon

Girls

Rachael
Florence
Mary

autodidact · 27/08/2010 21:24

Oh, Hogg, isn't your name? It could still be Horse?
