Called my dd this but going off it. Unsure whether to stick with it or change it. She's 10 weeks so I believe I have time. I wanted a classic pretty name that won't necessarily go out of fashion.

Other names we considered were:

Anita
Helena
Suzannah
Rose
Lucy/Lucie/Lucia
Florence

I cant see any particular name on her at the moment and dont 'love' any name so Im totally confused.

Her middle name is Elizabeth which I like but not enough for it to be her main name.

It takes a while for a baby to become their name I think. I know adult Annabels but I don't know any adult Florences (although my great aunt was a Florence).

I like Annabel a lot more than Anita! Anita is yuck. sorry!

Helena is ok but some people say Heleeena and some say helayna. And Helena. Elena is imo nicer and narrows down the pronounciation options.

Susannah is lovely

Rose is ok. Rosemary with Romy for short would be lovely but flower names will date the most imo

Lucy/Lucie/Lucia, yeah all nice, but popular. Prefer Annabel.

Florence. A bit harsh. I love Flora though.

I like Annabel, Susannah (or Flora instead of Florence, and Rosemary instead of Rose).

Wow, your taste similar to Samantha Cameron's. Their baby is Florence Rose Endellion. Florence may become more popular now. Endellion is awful. Sounds like End the rebellion.

I know an adult Annabelle and she's just become an Annie. Nobody remembers she's called Annabelle and are shocked when she reveals it!

I like Florence. Could become a Florrie.

We have an Annabel soon to be two. We love the name and get lovely comments about it all the time, stick with it. Plus there arent many of them .

collision · 25/08/2010 17:53

mine would have both been Annabel if they had been girls!

I love it and cannot understand why there are no Annabels but dozens of Isabelles!

Dont like Florence but your other names are nice.

Lucy Elizabeth is pretty but I think you should stick to Annabel.

What does DH say?

Apphia · 25/08/2010 17:55

One of my best friends is called Annabel so may be bias but I really like it!

Often gets shortened to Bel which I also like.

I say stick with it! Very classic IMO

Thanks for the support. You're convincing me that i may have made the right choice. Dh less keen on Annabel than me but he got Elizabeth.

Annabel is a pretty name and I love Anna as a name too, or you could have Annie as a nn as well.

Of your others I love the name Florence (although the PM has just named his baby this today, if that bothers you.)

I also like Lucie.

SaorAlba · 25/08/2010 18:23

Annabel is top of our list. DP in particular loves it.

Vine · 25/08/2010 19:21

Out of your list I like Annabel and Susannah, not keen on the others. Annabel is a good name, I don't see the point in changing it unless you LOVE another name otherwise you will end up on exactly the same position.

tootingtess · 25/08/2010 19:29

Valium i do really like Flora. Hadnt thought of that.

Flora Elizabeth/Flora Lucy/Flora Susannah?

Im back thinking i may change it.

Don't do anything for another few weeks... Or as Vine says, you'll be starting a thread in 3 weeks saying, she doesn't look like a 'flora'.

My first baby in particular, I almost couldn't believe that somebody had allowed me to name a human being! The name was more of an adult's name than a child's name (imo) eg, Margaret rather than Millie (just examples) so obviously you look at your tiny baby and think,,,,,,hmm, splodgie suits you more than Penelope/Florence/Annabel.

teaandcakeplease · 25/08/2010 19:37

My niece is called Annabel and is 12 and so utterly lovely.

Don't do anything for a few weeks as Valium says. She talks a lot of sense in her posts here.
