holly Kate and he doesn't like any boys names at all yet

what do you lot think?

I think you are overthinking this way in advance of when you need to and, I only like your boys names.

All of both sets of names are absolutely fine and unobjectionable.

Definitely over thinking.

How about Katherine Louise (nn Kate) as a compromise?

why am i over thinking? most people have names picked out years before they even plan to have children, i was just wondering weather other people liked them or not, and its not really a problem that we don't like eachothers names yet we were just talking last night because of watching a tv program where we both hated the child's name; although im not sure why im explaining the fact that me and my OH talked about baby names before we have a baby .

You are quite right. I was going to call my boys Rio and Arnold years before I had DC.

Funnily enough neither of my boys are called Rio or Arnold.

Nothing wrong with thinking about names, but then asking what others think is over thinking it. If you were due next week, or needed to register the baby, I could understand.

I don't think you need to worry just yet. Chatting it over between you is good fun. Worrying that it is a problem before you're even pregnant is a bit premature.

I think it also makes a difference when you actually have the child in front of you iyswim.

We had a shortlist and when DD arrived only one name suited her. I think there are a lot of names we both liked, but only a few we could picture a child of ours being named, and then once she had arrived even fewer still.

There is also loads of time and imo men (totally sexist I know) need more time to warm up to names and if you make an issue of it he is unlikely to come around to your way of thinking as he can't fool himself he has thought of it himself

it could just end up as the longest argument ever!!! i would say wait unitl it is a bit more urgent as we are having so many frustrating discussions and the baby is only a week away.

I like Katherine and Matthew. Don't really think middle names are important.

I do think it is a bit early to decide though. And I agree with fizz some names just suit some babies and others don't

dh and i have very different taste in names so it was a struggle, but when the time comes you'll find something (though i would advise to not still be arguing heatedly about it when you go to register your 7 week old baby having delayed it til the last possible moment. i STILL don't know what was so wrong with 'cosmo' )

He has not overthought anything -- the names he has in mind are generic 'girl names' from the 70s and 80s and 90s.

I think you could both work on Kate/ Katherine. Sometimes it's better not to push things with names, but come up with your own list and work on the gentle art of persuasion.

If your DH doesn't have any boy names in mind, then that could be a very good thing if he's the kind of person, as some DHs are, who comes up with some random name when asked what he thinks, and then defends it to the death just because he doesn't want to appear to back down.
