How popular is Leo?

Had Leo picked out for baby boy due Oct but have heard of a few been born very recently. Puts me off a bit. Is this name really popular? How many do u know?

I know two born recently so I think it is becoming more popular. Great name though and one we considered although I would prefer to use a longer version, Leopold or Leonardo on the bc.

Quite popular I think - it's our number 1 boy name for our Nov baby :)

I only know of one. It's a lot more classic and less trendy than Theo, which is a good thing imo. I'm not Catholic, but there was a Pope Leo and it is a Roman name, so it hardly needs 'lengthening' imo.

I have one at school - I know of no others his age but have heard of several baby leo's.

I know of only one, my DS :) He's 2.4 - there are some ONS stats about names (go to their website and search baby names and you can see an Excel spreadsheet with all the names used in 2008) and it was about 40something most popular in 2008 when DS was born.

I think it's one of those names where there is a chance there could be another in the same class as it is not completely uncommon but it's not like Jack or Thomas where they're lucky if there isn't another IYSWIM.

I know of none in RL: I put that down to the Blair effect.

I know 3 Leo's aged over 3, and 1 Leon age 5 and a Leon newborn.
