What do you think? Should it be kept for cats?! Or can I use it for my impending DD?

NW20 · 23/08/2010 09:49

It does remind me of a cat. Or of the witch in Bewitched!
But I do like it. Quite posh sounding though.

Here's our list ... I'd love to know honest thoughts - don't hold back!!

Primrose
Darcy
Blossom (Middle name I'm thinking)
Tabitha
Philipa
Mallory (DH's choice, I'm not a big fan)
Arabella

x Thanks

I really love Tabitha. DH doesn't Sad

Of your other choices I like Darcy and Arabella

Cortina · 23/08/2010 11:11

Primrose - think this will become more mainstream but not yet. You'll get a lot of raised eyebrows as I did with DS's name but then find 6 or 7 years on more people will love it. Upshot quite like, also like Marigold.

Darcy - not keen

Tabitha - like

Phillipa - like, but not keen on the inevitable? Pippa

Mallory - Malory Towers, a bit too American sounding for my taste

Arabella - like, a few cropping up now.

Psammead · 23/08/2010 11:13

Primrose - pretty but a bit 'prim'!
Darcy - hmmm.. sounds a bit incomplete
Blossom (Middle name I'm thinking) - fine for a mn
Tabitha - really love it
Philipa - it's not my taste, but it's ok
Mallory (DH's choice, I'm not a big fan) - love this name, but feel it's a bit masculine
Arabella - prefer Anabella

travellingrose · 23/08/2010 11:39

Primrose - no
Darcy - not keen
Blossom - Hill
Tabitha - cat
Philipa - love it
Mallory - American
Arabella - prefer Anabel

AT1137 · 23/08/2010 14:27

Love Tabitha and Primrose.

swanandduck · 23/08/2010 16:29

Primrose: Nice on a little girl but don't think it would work on most adults.
Darcy: dislike
Blossom (Middle name I'm thinking: Dislike
Tabitha: Love
Philipa: Like
Mallory (DH's choice, I'm not a big fan):Dislike
Arabella: Not too keen

MamaLazarou · 23/08/2010 16:34

Tabitha is a great name, and much underused, IMO.

flower1988 · 23/08/2010 16:36

I KNEW Tabitha was a cool name :) Thanks everyone! I was a bit worried it would be too different, but you've reassured me! x

LetThereBeRock · 23/08/2010 16:41

Arabella is quite nice.

Phillipa is ok.

I don't like the others. Primrose is awful. I really dislike Tabitha and think it's best kept for a cat.

lurcherlover · 23/08/2010 17:17

Isn't the female spelling Darcey? I thought Darcy was for boys...

pranma · 23/08/2010 17:22

I like all except Blossom which has connotations of either a cow or some unpleasant characters in 1950's girls' school stories :)
My favourite is Tabitha
Be aware of a children's rhyme about Arabella Caterpillar

MistyMooBags · 24/08/2010 15:37

I mentioned Tabitha as a potential name (didn't even consider baby might have been a boy) to DP when I was a couple of months pregnant and he loved it. So, Tabitha she is! :o)

I get the odd 'Bewitched' or Tabby-Cat comment, but most people love it as a name. :)

Cortina · 24/08/2010 15:46

Arabella caterpillar?

Anyone remember: 'Arabella, Arabella, have you seen my new umbrella, is it here? Is it there? Is it really anywhere?'

From 'Songs to play the recorder to' from memory.

ValiumSingleton · 24/08/2010 15:59

Witchy and feline imo, but people are divided.

jellybeans · 24/08/2010 16:03

Primrose...not keen
Darcy...not keen
Blossom (Middle name I'm thinking)
Tabitha..love it
Philipa ...like Philippa
Mallory ..dreadful

Tabitha by far the best

SirBoobAlot · 24/08/2010 22:05

I like Tabitha and Arabella.

The rest are definite no's from me. Especially not Blossom...

horatia · 24/08/2010 22:46

Primrose - like
Darcy - reminds me of Mr Darcy from Pride & Prejudice so sounds masculine to me
Blossom - like
Tabitha - dislike, "tab" is a strange start to a name, and it's a cat's name
Philipa - like Philippa :)
Mallory - Towers
Arabella - like

AlwaysbeOpralFruitstome · 24/08/2010 22:53

Primrose - Like and could use Rosie as a nickname.
Darcy - Nope.
Blossom - Sweet but not sure as a first name.
Tabitha - Love.
Philipa - Nope.
Mallory - Nope.
Arabella - and nope.

trinitybleu · 25/08/2010 16:29

I have a Tabitha - tbh no one has ever mentioned cats or Bewitched to us, and as cat lovers and as I love Bewitched, we wouldn't have minded anyway.

We and her friends call her T, my Nan calls her Tabby, my cousins call her Tabs. All are fine with us.

Now, we chose it because it was unusual and a family name, so not too many new Tabitha's now please! :)

missmoopy · 25/08/2010 16:43

Tabitha is a gorgeous name.

sparkle12mar08 · 25/08/2010 16:54

Love Tabatha, and much prefer it spelt that way too. But still gorgeous either way.

Fluffypoms · 25/08/2010 16:57

If i could have picked a name for myself it would have been Tabitha i love it.Smile

almostinvisiblewoman · 25/08/2010 17:02

tabitha is a lovely name .always seems odd to me that nobody bats an eyelid when thomas (tom) is used for a boy despite the obvious tom cat ssociation. yet lots of people scream cats name when tabitha(tabby) is mentioned.
