I love unusual names but OH is quite boring conventional so looks at me like I'm a complete loon sometimes!
Anyone else got names they love but will never be allowed to use?

Atticus
Aubrey
Safira
Zuri
Oriah

to name just a few!

Moss??????

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 22/08/2010 19:44

No - sorry Moss for a boy - I added it in to the sentence and didn't read it to see if it made sense.

And Trilby is a great name, I think. From the book by George Du Maurier. I wrote on it for my dissertation. And before you ask, the hat was named after her.

She was a tone deaf life model who posed for a group of artists in fin de siecle Paris, she met and came under the spell of Svengali and, under his power, she could sing like a bird. I'll have to save it for a cat now :(

BelligerentGhoul · 22/08/2010 19:48

I think it would be v cool for a cat. :)

Like the story behind the name - I didn't even have a good story as an excuse for Melody!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 22/08/2010 19:49

I really like the name Delilah but im sure DP will veto it when we start ttc next year.

I also like Hiedi but im guessing that will be a no to.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 22/08/2010 19:51

You should read it. Everyone should - I'm not really sure why not many people have heard of it. One of those mysteries, I guess.

I don't really have a good story for the rest of my kids's names.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 22/08/2010 19:51

My sister and her DH had a pact for thier 3rd child, She would name him if it were a boy and BIL would name her if it was a girl.

Sister wanted Josh and BIL wanted Xanthie (spelt like that pronounced Zan-thee) we all hoped and prayed it would be a boy and it was, my sister really hated the name Xanthie.

withorwithoutyou · 22/08/2010 19:51

Eloise.

Vetoed for DD1 2 years ago but I worked on him.

Eloise is 8 weeks old and sitting in her bouncy chair as we speak Grin

DuncanDisorderly · 22/08/2010 19:52

I love Ivo but my husband hated it.

And Phoebe for a girl.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 22/08/2010 19:56

We will have Phoebe if we ever have a girl it was what DS1 and DS2 were going to be called if they had been girls.

DetectivePotato · 22/08/2010 20:02

Phoebe is our second choice name for a girl. It will be a middle name if we have a girl.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 22/08/2010 20:08

We will have Phoebe-Jayne after my mum (Jayne) she died in April and i would really like any DD we have to have her name.

Boys on the other hand are a nightmare for us to name we struggled with DS1 and 2 there are no names that 'grab' me.

Giddyup · 22/08/2010 20:33

Ignatius
Atticus
Beau
Reuben
Rafferty
Gabriel
Arthur
Jasper
Jude

Clementine
Iris
Agatha
Clara
Esme
Esther

and anything else I have ever suggested. I am 30 weeks and apart from ridiculing all of my suggestions bar 1 boy and 1 girl name that are "sort of OK" he has yet to bring any suggestions of his own to the table

seaturtle · 23/08/2010 17:04

DP vetoed Jathniel, my first choice for DS. In hindsight, I'm glad he did.

Psammead · 23/08/2010 17:09

Benedict
Dominic
James
Austin
Rory

Abigail
Matilda
Roseanne
Annabelle
Evelyn

I rejected his one contribution - Ronja.

eatyourveg · 23/08/2010 17:15

Rufus, Noah, Jethro and Huw

LetThereBeRock · 23/08/2010 17:18

They're all great names Eatyourveg.

RonansMummy · 23/08/2010 17:31

I liked Joshua, Ryan and Dylan but he didn't

pigleychez · 23/08/2010 23:45

I wanted Elliot if the DD's had been boys.

Linnet · 23/08/2010 23:52

Calliope, dh wasn't keen, neither were most other people I mentioned it to. there are days when I wish I'd just put my foot down and used it.
