Just looking at an old will belonging to a lady called 'Sukey'. Was this ever a proper name rather than a nm?

I rather like it, if I can move away from 'Polly put the kettle on' in my head.

My BIL is from Africa and he is called 'Sukhi'. I prefer the way he has spelt it TBH but I don't really like it as a name for either gender.

MrsBadger · 22/08/2010 14:35

I like it as a nickname for Susan or Susannah, but not as a given name

Polly, now Polly is a fab name...

DessieLou · 22/08/2010 14:36

I think it's lovely for a girl. Would probably spell it Suki. Never met one though!

onimolap · 22/08/2010 14:36

Yes, there's a Jilly Cooper character in Polo called Sukey.

But my mother says it's short for Sarah.

MrsBadger · 22/08/2010 14:37

hmm, I thought Sally was short for Sarah... Sally is another good one actually

onimolap · 22/08/2010 14:41

Sally is short for Sarah.

Possible that my mother was having a senior moment (as Sussn sounds so much more likely) or she's recalling an individual idiocyncratic nn.

suki means 'like' in Japanese which is good, but I do see it more as a name for a cat

Pixieonthemoor · 25/08/2010 16:47

I think it is really SWEET! Wasnt Michelle Pfeiffer's character in the Witches of Eastwick called Sukey??

Blu · 25/08/2010 16:51

Suki is nice

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 25/08/2010 18:26

Isn't it short for Susan/Susannah (or can be). I went to uni with a Suky and my DD is at school with a Suki.

I like it.

horatia · 25/08/2010 20:50

Yes, a diminutive of Susan. I prefer Susie.

SherbetDibDab · 25/08/2010 20:52

Do you watch true blood. I just reminds me of Bill Compton saying 'Sookie' before they get it on.

autodidact · 25/08/2010 20:56

I like Suki. Went to school with a sweet one.

indie37 · 25/08/2010 20:58

I work with a Sukhie, she's lovely, very glam and lovely person.
