Boys names, 'normal' please.

I am pregnant with DC2. I have a DS and we have used our boys name. Really struggling with another.

I like Harry, DH isn't quite so sure but I may be able to persuade him.

There are names that are ok but I don't love them.

Can't have names in the family (according to DH) so out is Daniel, Callum, Matthew, Sam, James. All names that I like!

I like traditional 'normal' names. None of this Benedict/Cassius stuff (appologies to anyone who likes these or who has named their DS's these names but they are just not for me).

I also don't care how common it is. If I like it, I will use it (apart from Jack, far too many).

Thomas
Samuel if you use the full version?
Joseph
Alexander
William

DetectivePotato · 21/08/2010 10:52

My best friends DS is called Samuel, which I'm gutted as it is my favourite boys name. I also have a few female friends called Sam too so its definitely out.

Thomas, Alexander and William are on my list of likes but not love. Maybe I need to keep thinking so one can grow on me.

Personally I love Cassius and DD2 would've been called it had she had been a boy. Each to their own Wink

Sirboobalot, love how you managed to slip 'Roy' in amongst a list of relatively normal names Grin

SirBoobAlot · 21/08/2010 11:22

Squeezy, its a very traditional name, actually... 19th most common Victorian boys name, apparently!

SirBoobAlot · 21/08/2010 11:24

Sorry, terrible syntax there... Blush

I didn't know Benedict wasn't a normal name.

What about Norman? That's almost completely normal. Grin

Good links on here

Depends on what is 'normal' for your area and generation, though. I mean, I went to school with two Frasers, a Bentley (luckily not Fraser's brother), two Malcolms, a (male) Kim and a Heath. Seemed pretty normal at the time.

AT1137 · 21/08/2010 13:22

I didn't realise Benedict and Cassius weren't normal either! Hey ho, my bump, if it is a boy will be an abnormal Benedict! Hurrah for non-normal!!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 21/08/2010 13:25

I wasn't aware that Benedict wasn't a 'normal' name either!

And Roy - Eeew. It's my Dad's name and I'd love to do the nice thing and include it DC4's name somewhere, but really, I can't. I was looking at the ONS 2008 boys' names list last night and was amaed to see there were 6 (or was it 8?) born that year.

Bacofoil · 21/08/2010 13:27

Perhaps by 'normal' the OP meant 'English traditional'? Which Cassius (a fab name imo) isn't but Benedict is. That's the way I read it, anyway.

ValiumSingleton · 21/08/2010 13:30

Marcus, Dominic, Peter.

All normal, all a bit of a change from Harry.

lifeas3plus1 · 21/08/2010 13:54

Peter is a lovely underused name.

As is David.

Adam
Benjamin
Cristopher
David
Edward
Fred/Freddie/Fredrick

Henry
Ian
Joshua
Keiron
Louis/Lewis

Bit of a mix but just naming all the boy's I rememeber from school.

rachel234 · 21/08/2010 14:15

Not sure I can see anything 'abnormal' about Ben either, but hey ho.

These all seem like solid, English traditional names:

Andrew
Thomas
Quentin
Michael
Stephen
Edward
Henry
Daniel
Christopher

emptyshell · 21/08/2010 15:39

Sebastian?

mathanxiety · 21/08/2010 18:05

Hugh
Isaac
Austin
Nathan
Edmund

Expecting06112010 · 21/08/2010 18:14

stressedHEmum · 21/08/2010 18:21

Peter

Gary/Gareth
David
Ben
Jake
Jamie
Ryan
Keiran
Innes
Gordon
David
Logan
Iain
Niaill

See, round about here any child called Benedict/Cassius/Marcus/Quentin etc. would get a daily kicking. You might as well stick a "Punch Me" sign on his back and a note saying that "my mummy doesn't love me." So, I can see where the OP is coming from.

beckie90 · 21/08/2010 18:57

yea i agree i doesnt think she means to say isnt normal, its just not normal to what she hears or where she lives, as ive never heard of the names benedict or cassius in my life until coming onto this site.
i do like harry, detective

joshua
jake
conner
oliver
harvey
ethan
matthew
