Cortina · 18/08/2010 15:44

Mona is quite nice? IF you don't think 'moaner' immediately. Beats Goneril :).

Love it... but would never have the guts

youngblowfish · 18/08/2010 16:01

Because a very quick google etymology search reveals that it originates from Greek and a literal translation would mean 'ill-fated' or, alternatively, 'of the devil'.

Cortina · 18/08/2010 16:03

Might raise a few eyebrows! :)

Oh yes :) Acutally, I am quite sensible IRL but children will and do not have dull, sensible names :).

I like to think that in this day and age pretty much anything goes. :).

will she be as white as monumental alabaster?

tartyhighheels · 18/08/2010 18:51

An old friend of mine had a rather elegant cat called Desdemona, this is fine

For a child, this is wrong wrong wrong

Maybe get a cat?

MrsJamin · 18/08/2010 18:52

Sam100 - that's exactly what I thought when I saw the name! However DS2's name is in a VERY famous song so I can't talk ;)

Sam100 · 18/08/2010 19:00

MrsJ - showing our age! Got it buzzing round in my head now and feeling the need for legwarmers!

MrsJamin · 18/08/2010 19:13

hehe me too- "I'm warning you... don't know what I'll do... if your love isn't true... DESDEMONA!" I was a Fame freak even though it was a bit old for me (I'm 32).

Atlasive · 18/08/2010 19:29

LOL, I remember that song too!

KittyBigglesworth · 20/08/2010 10:18

Oh dear, I used to watch Fame too. I remember Leroy singing "Oh, my Desdemona, your loving's been so good.." Sadly, I can even remember the tune. The cast were very earnest about the whole rehearsal and there was tension amongst the group, what would happen next? I'd sit a foot from the screen needing to know. Leroy's tights were mesmerising and I didn't yet know why. It progressed to Rudolf Nureyev being my first crush. It was all about the nylon clad crotch.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 20/08/2010 10:37

If you like ill fates heroies how about Ophelia? Juliet? Perdita? Hermione? (don't actually die but could have all been so different if not for the bear) Cleopatra? Aida? Isolde?

Too self-indulgent for words... Hmm
