DS1 due in a few weeks.

Shortlist is very short:
Nathan, Benjamin, Oliver.

Surname begins with B. Which do you prefer and other suggestions please?!

Thanks!

I like Benjamin, then Oliver then Nathan.

Thanks Cupcakes. We started off liking Nathan best, but now I think I prefer Benjamin.

What about Benjamin within Nathan as a middle name?

Got any other suggestions?! I feel worried that my list is so short!

Sorry Benjamin with Nathan as MN of course...

I find both Ben (Benjamin) and Ollie (Oliver) a little dull.

Nathan is nice. How about Nathan Oliver?

LaTristesse · 17/08/2010 10:14

I agree, Nathan Oliver...

ben5 · 17/08/2010 10:15

Benjamin! think my name says it all!

PomPotty · 17/08/2010 10:16

Another vote for Nathan Oliver, but maybe not a good idea with the surname beginning with B.... Grin

Really like Benjamin and Nathan

Similar names:

Alexander

Henry

Hope that helps!

Have you thought about all the shortenings? That really helped us as there were some names we loved but just didn't like what they might become.
BNB for initials sound just a little like BNP, being very pedantic. You can't control all shortenings.

I like Oliver, Benjamin, Nathan in that order. But that is just me (not so keen on Nate at as a shortening for Nathan, although there are a lot worse from other names).

They're all nice, I don't think you can go too wrong with any of them. Also, you often get a feeling for which name when he arrives. Secondly your OP/DH (if you are having to decide with someone else of course) will pretty much agree to anything after the birth, so it is always your call. Smile

Thanks all.

We are a little dull I'm afraid Grin!

I think we would shorten Benjamin to Ben but maybe not Oliver to Ollie.

Yes we liked Nathan Oliver too, but not the initials NOB...!

I like Leonard and Clement too but not as first names. And I like Nicco but put off by association with a nearby annoying person...

Thanks Lullabella! I like Alexander...

Ben5 - is your DS Ben? Is he big enough to like/dislike his name?

Pearlsandtwinset Yes BNB is a bit like BNP - or just B'n'B Hmm

We already have a DD and DH chose her name ane it really suits her, so I can take a slightly more dictatorial approach this time! I liked Nathan from very early on and DH now prefers it but now I'm wobbling...

I think we def need to see the little face that pops out, but I need an order preference and maybe a couple more names just in case he doesn't look like a Nathan a Benjamin or an Oliver...

From your list of three I like Oliver best, then Nathan (although I prefer Nathaniel). Also like Lulabella's suggestion of Alexander.

SirBoobAlot · 17/08/2010 11:57

Nathan.

racheyh · 17/08/2010 12:12

Nathan cos people can't change it (not many think of Nate) The PIL's changed my DS1 Daniel to Dan, Danny, Dan the Man almost from the second his name was announced but have so far failed to call DS2 Nathan anything but his proper name! Ha ha to them! Also love Nathan Oliver!

stinkypants · 17/08/2010 13:05

nathan definitely - both ben and oliver are very common. i quite like nate in any case. but not initials nob - maybe go for something like luke as middle name or james - i think one syllable middle names sound good.

hopingforanother · 17/08/2010 13:17

This is really helpful! There are lots of Nathan votes there which suggests my first feeling was right!!

My prefered combos so far would be:

Nathan Benjamin
Nathan Alexander
Benjamin Oliver

Such a shame our surname begins with B otherwise it prob would have been Nathan Oliver...

racheyh when asked, I told MIL our choices, she wrinkled her nose and looked concerned saying 'so Nathan would be shortened to....Nat?' - well and trully foxed! Don't mind things being shortened, as long as I get to shoose what they're shortened to Grin

Another vote for Nathan. I also find Ollie and Ben a little bland.

I wouldn't worry about the initials. How often do you write/see all your initials...? I'm MAD (Melanie Anne Dxxx) and have lived quite happily with it Smile.

Prefer Benjamin and Oliver, both lovely, strong, traditional boy names.

I have a Benjamin myself and call him Benjy quite often, though I doubt he will allow that as he gets older!
