Emma?

I think it's a really pretty name, but is it very popular at the moment and do you think it's boring?

Do you prefer Emma Carys or Carys Emma?
Emma Harriet?

Any other suggestions to go with Emma? I like fairly classic/traditional names... a bit unusual is fine but don't like anything really "out there".

Boring for me, sorry. I know I'll be in the minority though.

I love it, a perfect English girl's name.

I don't know any little Emmas - the youngest I know is 14. It's lovely - classic and timeless.

I wouldn't do Emma Harriet, though, unless you want to be thought of as a Jane Austen fan!

I like Emma. Carys is nice too but might be slightly biased as my lovely niece (5) is Carys. Also like Harriet.

You could go completely retro and have Emma Jane.

I prefer Jemma.

Emma is ok, bit blank. No worse than Lily or Ella. I categorise them in the same vein, so if you like those names you will ignore me.

All the Emmas I've ever met have been lovely. I've never come across a nasty Emma.

I like Emma too - know no nasty ones, and no little ones. Oldest Emma I know is 10.

I love Emma, it was our favourite girl name. Not Emma Harriet though, too "Jane Austin"'s Emma. Emma Louise?

Emma is the height of boring blandness for me, sorry. I have never liked it, even when i was a child.
However, I like Carys less. SO i would go for Emma Harriet, Harriet is lovely.

I always think names who you know lots of as adults are boring!
Everyone went to school with an emma, everyone has worked with an emma etc...

I think that Emma is better as a middle name than a first name, what about Harriet Emma?

I know a (fairly) nasty Emma, but still think it is a lovely name. I can see why some might think it boring (lots of them about in the 70s), but it is very pretty and these days quite underused.

Love love love Emma. It is timeless and elegant and would be my number one choice if DH would let me have it!

There are quite a few grown-up Emmas which I think puts some people off as they see it as a common name, but there aren't many little Emmas around

its around 20 in the popularity stakes.

my DD is an Emma and i chose it because its a pretty, classic name and not too ubiquitous (like lily, amelia, martha etc). The only other Emma i know is DH's cousin.

i agree that Emma Harriet is a bit Jane Austen and at the moment i am trying to choose a name for DC2 that won't sound too Jane Austen when put next to Emma!

I think you'll find as the years roll by it will exude even more class and grace than it does already. There will be barely any of them, ditto Sarah and Helen which are equally was nice and in the same vein to my mind.

That should read 'equally as nice' sorry, pregnancy brain in force today.

I'm an Emma Louise and I quite like it! I also went to school with an Emma Rose which was quite a sweet name. Apart from that one girl I went to school with, I dont know any other Emma's so I guess it's not as popular now.
