I love Merryn. I have a Merryn friend: she's lovely & has made me love the name but I think it's nice anyway. Definitely not Brooke (association=Shields, yuk). Not Skyler (I think Skyler is one of demi moore's daughters, no? Super American) & Parker even worse. I put Parker for a girl in same category as Madison.

sedgiebaby · 14/08/2010 13:53

Merryn (prefer Merrin spelling though) and Hugh (prefer Hugo though!)

DastardlyandSmugly · 14/08/2010 14:09

Merryn and Hugh for me too.

deaddei · 14/08/2010 14:11

Don't like any of the girls names at all.
You can't call a child Parker!
Do like Hugh.

tummytickler · 14/08/2010 15:36

Merryn (agree with sedgie about spelling Merrin) and Hugh (but would spell Huw).
Do not like any of the other names.

meadowlarks · 14/08/2010 17:35

I quite like Hallam actually; are you a Tennyson fan?

Maria2007loveshersleep · 14/08/2010 20:51

Tummytickler: why Huw? Surely the association will be (well for those of our generation) to a certain BBC newscaster? I much prefer the traditional spelling Hugh. Also, it's not great to have to spell out your name all through your life.

As for Merryn/Merrin, because my friend is called MerrYn, MerrIn seems likes an error to me :).

tummytickler · 14/08/2010 21:40

Huw just seems the natural spelling to me - every Hugh/Huw I have ever met has had the Huw spelling.

SnailWhaleTail · 14/08/2010 21:54

I have a Hugh, it is usually commented on favourably. I do like Huw but we are not welsh so went for the trad spelling.

SecretNutellaFix · 14/08/2010 21:59

Merryn and Hugh

The others are very American choices

Merryn and Hugh

Merryn was our choice for DD2 except that we are having a boy, and I love it as a girls name. Do prefer the Merryn spelling because that is the Cornish saint is spelt so in my mind it is the traditional spelling. But Merrin may also be traditional, I just don't know it that way.

Boys names - neither really do it for me. But I know a very nice Hugh (age 6).

proudfoot · 15/08/2010 21:49

From the girls the best is Merryn but I would spell it Merran (the one I know spells this way and I think it looks nicer)

The boys aren't really my cup of tea. What about Hugo or Hamish?
