Hi all, I finally came up with some sort of a shortlist for my baby boy who is due in 2.5 months time. We already have one DS named Dominic.

Justin
Martin
Adrian
Herman
Frank
Oscar

Any opinions on the names please...?

Definetely Frank

LilyBolero · 12/08/2010 13:49

yy to Benedict too. Why not call this one Francis, and then have another called Benedict. V cool! And Dom, Frank and Ben good too!

Clary · 12/08/2010 13:49

Martin and Adrian are names of 40yos I am afraid (along with Mike, Dave, Steve, Paul and Stuart).

Like their wives Julie, Clare, Karen and Tracey.

Of yr others, I like Oscar v much tho getting popular I believe (I only know one, who is 11); I know a not v nice lad called Frank and also it begs a rhyming nickname perhaps? Justin a bit posh for me. Herman pretty whacky if you like that!

BunnyLebowski · 12/08/2010 13:49

Imo Martin and Adrian are 'wet' limp lettuce kinda names.

PadmeHum · 12/08/2010 13:50

None of your choices - sorry.

Justin - I find a bit bland
Martin - Is very nondescript
Adrian - Is very nondescript
Herman - Is not good
Frank - Not bad but not great
Oscar - Is ok but it's very mainstream

How about (thinking of names to go with Dominic)

Sebastian
Alexander
William
Teddy (Edward)

Isn't Oliver overused too? I am not too keen on it, but thanks.

Btw I love Miles but it is completely out of my heritage (and my DH said he has never heard of it Hmm, so I have no courage to consider it.

reading other posts, I know brothers Dominic and Benedict, also bros Dominic and Ollie, also brothers Francis and Oscar, how weird is that??

PadmeHum · 12/08/2010 13:52

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Francis (nn Frankie)

toja555 · 12/08/2010 13:53

For someone who thinks Martin is of 40yos, it is on top of the 2009-2010 in so many other European countries!

I must agree with the poster who says that Martin is a 40 year old mid life crisee.

Ditto Adrian.

Clary · 12/08/2010 13:55

I know about six dads of my DCs' pals who are called Martin.

They are mostly in their 40s.

If you live in the UK that's the vibe, whatever they may think in France!

LetThereBeRock · 12/08/2010 13:55

The Adrian I know, who is in his 20s,is anything but limp and wet. He's lovely, a police officer and is tall, dark and handsome.

Oh gosh, so many different opinions, but probably NO to Justin and Herman,

Martin, Adrian, Frank (Francis) and Oscar remaining, would love to add Miles if I manage to convince that there is such name!

  • if I manage to convince my DH that there is such name indeed!

I appreciate your opinions, btw! Having lived in the UK for limited number of years, I haven't reached that stage of knowing names of 40yos dads.

I prefer Frank

mathanxiety · 12/08/2010 16:55

Herman, Justin and Adrian have a lot going for them imo.

lilllysa · 12/08/2010 16:59

I have to say that all the names listed are very forgettable. Nothing 'special' in my opinion :(

Miles is a lovely name. My friend has a DS Miles and he is a lovely happy bright kid.

ValiumSingleton · 12/08/2010 17:29

Martin!? Confused

My friend's brother is marty and he carries it off, but Martin - good grief.

Justin I actually like. A bit trousersnake? That's not a big deal though.

Adrian - no, brings to mind a really petty individual, somebody I used to work with, but his name really suited him. Aidan sounds more easy-going than an Adrian.

Oscar - I like it. I think it's one of those names which is a tiny bit self-consciously trendy. So I prefer something like Victor.

Frank/Francis/Frankie - I like these actually. In the same vein as Victor imo

Herman - are you serious?? Herman Goerring!

proudfoot · 12/08/2010 22:49

Oscar is nice

Martin is okay

The rest aren't great!

seaturtle · 12/08/2010 23:22

My favorite from your list is Oscar. Although Herman is growing on me.
