Due next month, not sure what I'm having, have a girl and a boy already called Seth and Nancy so want a name which compliments these two.

So far we have a shortlist of:

GIRLS
Clara
Adelaide (Ada)
Olive

BOYS
Ralph
Felix
Gideon
Tom

Ha ha My Clara was first.
How dare you copy me!

proudfoot · 11/08/2010 22:23

I love Clara

Adelaide is also nice, Olive seems a bit dowdier

I like all the boys apart from Ralph but Gideon has the most character and if you like unusual names then I would pick that one. Felix is nice but getting popular. Tom is great (if Thomas is the full name, otherwise less so...) but obviously v popular

Thanks for all your help, list has been revised and girls name will definitely now be Adelaide (Ada for short). Ralph still on list as I do like it but Tom and Felix and Gideon are off, I now like Monty for a boy...any thoughts? Here's hoping a girl arrives!!

Thanks again you lot, you're great!

Humprey - I share your ridiculous anxiety :). One of mine has an 'unusual' name that is rising from obscurity rather faster than I'd hoped :). How dare everyone steal my name!

I love Adelaide by the way...Wasn't there a 70s/early 80s TV programme called 'The Strange Affair of Adelaide Harris' or have I made that up? What was it about, if anyone recalls it?

HumphreyCobbler · 12/08/2010 10:57

thesecondcoming, I am starting to think we are the same person. We rejected Monty for precisely that reason! I am thinking our politics may differ slightly though Grin

I know Cortina, it is silly but I can't help it. The thing is, you can avoid calling your child a name that is actually popular at the moment, but who can forsee the future? We are just in the vanguard of fasion and thus probably very cool Smile

OP, Ada is fabulous. You have great taste in names.

Cortina · 12/08/2010 11:12

I share your pain and of course I agree! :) I fear I want to deliberately sabotage the rise from obscurity sometimes :)

A few I know have called their children Monty recently and I predict a surge of popularity amongst the Fulham set which will then spread.

I have a Clara too. I work in the statistics office and you won't believe where it has shot up to in this year's baby names numbers :(

lilllysa · 12/08/2010 12:11

GIRLS
Clara - Nice but makes me think of farmyard animals?! No idea why!!

Adelaide (Ada)- Nice but not keen on Ada

Olive - Nice :)

BOYS
Ralph - Makes me think of the kid on the simpsons

Felix - The cat
Gideon - Nice
Tom - & Jerry

Sorry :( I just go on what comes into my head when hearing the name!

CreepyFunbags · 12/08/2010 12:12

I like Olive and Ralph best anyway to go with your other names, forgot to say before!

Cortina · 12/08/2010 12:19

Creepy - what else is shooting up also out of interest? Thanks.

this is spooky

my first son (who I sadly lost) was called Lawrence, to be known as Laurie. Had you considered that by any chance?
